If not, no problem. But can be better for the lifespan of the back lights. These can stop working I read after some years.
Hello MichielX1,

Happy to hear that it worked. Your car looks much better now.

Rear light LED strips working "overtime" is not an error, it a feature that can be activated / deactivated by Bimmercode (even within Simple mode). Please see my post on Page 5 (post #90, last picture).

I understand your concern, as I have periodically seen cars on the road with some strips not working (mostly for the reason described by MrPingu).

But they have relatively long lifespan, it is not like they are going to burn out overnight on your car.

I am still in the phase when I'm rejoicing success of my conversion, so they are on full time . When I get fully used to them and they become "ordinary" to me, I'll likely consider shutting them down during the day (when front DRL's are working) for preservation.

All the best.

Sorry that your led stopped working, mrpingu. I hope you can fix it.

And thanks to you and inlinesix85 for the solution not having the rear lights during daytime. I was under the impression that the daylights had to be active making the conversion work. Because it is one of the steps to be taken.

I hope future members have a help as well from this thread. Bye!

I may be late but my X1 has LED taillights. Planning to replace them with the LCI ones. So, is it plug, code and play or do I need to do some re wiring?

Pre LCI LED to LCI LED should be a straight swap. No coding necessary.

Im trying to do exactly the same thing. Ive even posted a thread about it. The connectors from our Pre-LCI LED version are different to the LCO full LED rear lights. The tail lights are the same.

Looks like you will def have to do some wiring, even if its to change the wiring loom from existing connector to new connector. Let me know how you get on. We can help each other lol

Are you sure they are different? The part number looks the same on PRE LCI and LCI models.

Maybe the Full LED lights don't have the bulb holder part.

They are definitely different. The outer rear light connecter is def not the same on Pre-LCI LED vs LCI LEDs.

The tail lights are the same, but when installed wont line up with the design of pre-LCI outer LED rea light.

LCI tail lights are the same, plug and play, however the reverse light line will be out of sync with your Pre-LCI outer rear light.

That’s another coding. Check your settings in Bimmercode easy mode under ‘Daytime Running Light’. It might be that these settings are on active now.

Well, funny that you mention it. Mine has started flickering and took the taillight quickly out today and had a look. After a quick look and some test I came to the conclusion it is not the LED strips that fail but the PCB inside them. The only thing is that to get completely to the PCB you have to separate the lens / cover from the assembly. I didn’t want to do that today so I will try to buy second hand inner taillight and when I have to time I will fix up the PCB as probably it’s the same problem as on the X3’s: https://www.ledsupply.com/blog/commo...ail-light-fix/
Appreciate you are busy but do let us know how you get on with that. Its really annoying having to replace full unit when just 1 element has failed.

After some months of enjoyment, my LED outer tail light stopped working

This is what I checked;

1) The LED part in the light unit works when I connect the whole unit to the right side

2) The cable that I installed from the Body Domain Controller in the front to the light unit in the back is oke and not broken. I did an Ohm test with a multimeter.

3) The fuses related to lights regarding the diagram (9, 32, 62, 103, 104). I can not find specific fuses for the tail lights

4) The dashboard does not give any errors on the lights.

The last thing I can figure out is the coding. Maybe due to whatever the newly installed coding from halogen to LED is not correct anymore. And should be checked or done again.

Any other thoughts from you guys?

So sorry to dig up such an old post but I wrongly thought what I bought was plug n play. I’ve got an EU car with only three cables, so I’d be curious to know which of the 3 was rear tail lights and how you changed the position in the plug to be DRL?

I used the outer tail light wire and switched it to the drl position in the harness. This also means my drl light up more when I brake. So to add a braking light I also mapped the rear fog lights to brake lights.

Only caveat so far is the outer drls only come on when it's dark or I turn lights on from the switch, and also the inner "standard" taillight is always on.

Anyone know how to code these?
I’ve actually managed to get the drl on so now I need to know how to remap the fog lights to brake lights?! Can you remember? I’m so close now…..

Hi, I used Bimmercode, I think there was an option directly in the app, I didn't do any advanced coding.

I will look into it again this evening and see if I can find the info I saved at the time.

Change LAMPMAPPING_NEBELSCHLUSSL_x_FUNCTION from 'NSL' [0E] to 'brakelight' [0C] or change LAMPMAPPING_BREMSL_2_x_OUTPUT to nsl_l [1C] or nsl_r [1D]

See also this sheet. Especially the tabs LAMPMAPPING, BDC Function ID and output IDS.
