323 - Softclose Retrofit on F48 :)

S323A - Soft Close Retrofit
Introduction
This was never released for the X1 but I found out that X5 and G12 use exactly the same doorlocks. Inspired by someone else in Norway who did this to i3 I thought to do this to my F48 aswell.

Result / in action:

As soft-close don't need any coding this is almost plug&play.

The parts we need
Cables & connectors
4x approx 1.5meter 0.35mm2 Cables (4 different colors)
2x approx 10meter 0.75mm2 Cables (2 different colors for ground & power)
8x 6-pin female Hirschmann sealstar connector
4x 2-pin 2way 1.2 SealStar FA Connector (Female)
4x 2-pin 2way 1.2 SealStar MA Connector (Male)
4x TE AMP MCP 2.8 connector - 61139232674 (fusebox)
8x Fillister head screw with collar 07147187828
4x 10A mini fuse

Soft-close motors
1x Lock, Bowden cable, front left 51207323781 / 51207419839
1x Lock, Bowden cable, front right 51207323782 / 51207419840
1x Lock, Bowden cable, rear left 51207323783 / 51207419841
1x Lock, Bowden cable, rear right 51207323784 / 51207419842

Soft close locks from X5*
* It depends if you have 8TG thiefproofing device on your X1 F48 you need to source correct locks

For vehicles with 8TG = YES (SCA / ZS)
1x Door lock, front left SCA / ZS 51217281949
1x Door lock, front right SCA / ZS 51217281952
1x Door lock, rear left SCA / ZS 51227281957
1x Door lock, rear right SCA / ZS 51227281958

For vehicles without 8TG = NO (SCA)
1x Door lock, front left SCA 51217281945
1x Door lock, front right SCA 51217281948
1x Door lock, rear left SCA 51227281953
1x Door lock, rear right SCA 51227281954

The wire-diagrams
Taken from G12, as the F15 wiring diagram is incomplete for this matter so I decided to create my own based on the evidence I found.

The original system on both the F15 & G12 both use terminal 30B. Using my fuse guide
I found that fuse 85, 86, 87, 88 is not used on my and probably most cars and that is on terminal 30B. So I will be adding the wires to these fuselocations. All motors use 10A minifuse. If one of these slots is taken try to find a free slot on the same block, so you stay on the correct terminal.

What needs to be done?

Step 1: Pulling a power wire from fusebox to each door
Step 2: Repin the locks
Step 3: Fix the motors

Step 1: Pulling a power wire from fusebox to each door
In this step we will be pulling a power wire from fusebox to each door and extra ground wire for passenger side rear door

Cable needs to be 0.75mm2 cross section. I stay with the standard and pick red wires for 12V+ & black wires for ground.
Fuse 85(Z7*6B pin 12) Driver side door (X28*1B pin 33)
Fuse 86(Z7*6B pin 11) Passenger side door (X5*1B pin 33)
Fuse 87(Z7*6B pin 10) Driver side, rear door (X8*1B pin 16)
Ground (Z10*7B) Driver side, rear door (X8*1B pin 15)
Fuse 88(Z7*6B pin 9) Passenger side, rear door (X9*1B pin 16)
Ground (Z10*6B) Passenger side, rear door (X9*1B pin 15)

As on the rear doors there is only 0.35mm2 ground wire I decided to pull an extra 0.75mm2 ground wire to the passenger footwell ground point (Z10*6B) as well from the passengerside rear door. (X9*1B pin 15).
For driver side I pulled the wire backwards to the ground point on the wheel arch (Z10*7B)
Ground (Z10*7B) Driver side, rear door (X8*1B pin 15)

Then add the wires in the fusebox

Then run it to the doors, this shows passenger side rear door:

Note added yellow wire in pin 16 and the black wire (ground) on pin 15 is added.

Step 2: Repin the locks
To keep it plug and play I use the 2-pin sealstar. Originally on non-soft close locks all pins are on the top connector but soft close locks also have a second connector. Pim 7 and pin 8 from the top connector need to go the pin 2 and pin 4 on the bottom connector.

Then just find add the 4 other wires between the motor and the lock according the diagram.
The motor needs also power and ground.
For power use wires that have been added in step 1.
Ground on the front doors can be just tapped into the ground wire inside the door. For the rear doors use the the ground pin that was added in step 1.

Step 3: Fix the motors

In the front doors you can reuse 1 small hole and a the big hole to fix the motor.
The rears door you have to drill a hole as there is no suitable hole and there is lot less space in the rear doors.

Yeah it actually is. Makes the car feel more premium. For time being did only passenger door and have still to source driver door lock but rears are sourced but still needs to be fitted.

In short it involves sourcing door locks & softclose motor from X5 F15 or 7 series G12 and install these. Soft-close was never released for F48 but F15 and G12 use same doorlocks.

Decided to cut and paste all the wirediagrams and put together Soft-close Wire Diagram for the F48. If anyone wants to undertake themselves.

Is there any interest that I write a more comprehensive guide?

For me I'm pretty much never going to undertake this task myself so no need. It is great info though! It's a pretty sweet feature I've seen on x5's of the past but my friend decided not to get it again after getting something caught in the older cars' door.

Simply incredible. This is a retrofit to be respected!

Maybe I'll try this one later on. For now, I'm motivated to reassembly my car and be able to drive it again, heheheh

Do you have the part numbers list to do this retrofit?

Thank you

Added the guide, put lot more effort in the first part than the second but hope it’s useful enough. Includes part Numbers. Didn’t took pictures of everything but at added an good deal of them to show the extend of this retrofit.
