How to retrofit Power folding mirror on X1/F48 2014-19
I tried my best to figure out how to retrofit power folding mirror in the forum. I had to do the homework myself. So here's hopefully some help for those who might want to get electric folding mirrors on the car.
Yes, you must first of all have a set of electric folding mirrors to install! On the driver side it was just plug&play. I just had to use bimmercode to activate the powerfolding function then it worked. But on the passenger side You need to add 3 wires. You need to connect a ground wire to pin number 4 on the mirror socket, this you can quickly connect to already existing ground wire on the harness. Next are add 2 wires from door contact 12-K.Lin and 14.Power to Pin contact number 5 - K-Lin, and 6 -power on mirror socket .. The mirror socket should only have the Pin. number 1 + 4. brown ground wire. Pin. number 5. K.Lin and Pin. 6. power. Pin. 2 is white/yellow for the turn signal, can stay as it is. (all in all it is 5 pin's) If it is unclear on the wiring sheet, you need to add a wire K-Lin from the BDC/FEM Pin number 27 in the socket 4. white socket it is placed beside the gray one. remove the jacket and add the wire. This wire you ned to connect to door frame side connector Pin 12. Also Power from P.36 junction box (Z7) need to be connected to Pin.14 in the same doorframe connector. To be able to do it you need to remove the BDC unit. REMEMBER TO HAVE THE IGNITION OFF DOING THE JOB!!!! If not you will get Error Codes.... Forgot this: you will need for the wires 6x female pin's 61131383776 2X male pin's 61131393723 To clearify..... it is not necessary to have electric memo seats to do this job. GOOD LUCK !! power folding mirrors X1
Hi sorry late responding. No it is not necessary to have electric memo seats. I did this in my car and it is a 2017 X1, 2.0 M, with manual seats.

Any idea if there is a power source I can connect the green wire to inside the side mirror? Or would that require more work?
This is the item I'm referring to https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dynamic-Rea...UAAOSwULJfGV0b

You need to use the side mirror flip power as it say. if you not have power folding mirrors I guess you need to wire extra power line. to make the blue color work. As I understand it, you need to connect the green conductor to a direct power. If You have power folding mirror, power is wire in pin 6 in the mirror- socket

That's a good question. Unfortunately, I don't have electric folding mirrors, but I can fold them manually.
I always thought that I needed special metal support for the electric folding mirrors to work, but now I'm not so sure. Could someone please shed some light here? For example, if I can fold my mirrors manually, do I only need to do the wiring? Thanks!

An old thread I know but hopefully someone can help.....?
My mirrors do not fold in, they electrically adjust and I do not have a switch to fold them in manually! do all mirrors have the fold in motor built in? would the above be correct for me? (add door control panel with switch, add 3 wires, use bimmer code to enable auto closing?) any help appreciated Jason |

I disassemble my mirrors, and they don't have the motor or the metal harness needed for power-folding. Although, I can fold them manually, but all the interior is just plastic. So, on top of all the electric work required, I guess we need to buy the proper harness first.

Hi everyone. "How to retrofit Power folding mirror on X1/F48 2014-19"
I see there are some questions about whether you must have a mirror that has a motor so it can fold. Yes, you have to buy it, I got hold of 2 mirrors from a damaged car so they weren't that expensive. But of course there is a bit of work with the wires. If you're a car enthusiast like me, it's just a game and a challenge. So good luck to you all. |

I am able to buy 2 power folding mirrors but I am wondering if this method(https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1360941) will work on X1 F48 aswell? Anyone experience with this method, ar all cars prewired?
Also I found out that there are two partnumbers for the switch: Which do I need? Or are they interchangable? I don't have S430 but I do have S316. New mirrors will be power folding only as I am not able to find auto dimming mirrors with Shadowline for reasonable price. 61319362116 or 61319362107 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=61_4176 Last edited by mrpingu; 12-02-2022 at 07:34 AM.. |

I verified the schemes and F30 and F48 are the same. That means we can use the soldering method as far as I am concerned. Will install new mirrors this month as one of the blinkers in the mirror has failed and that means failing MOT in Norway. I know I could just install new lights but this gave me an excuse to install new mirrors. I mean the original ligths are 40 EUR per piece... Now I got the pair of mirrors with, power folding and electrochromatic dimming on both sides foor only 10 times as much (400 EUR) :P |

Hi mrpingu ,
Thanks for the guide, I am trying to retrofit power folding mirrors, I have prepared the switch as per the guide but as soon as I install the new switch and start the ignition mirrors tilt automatically downwards and I can't tilt them using the switch, everything works fine if I put back the old switch. |

Did you change the mirrors already aswell? and did you code the car?
Did you also measure you don’t shorted accidentally a neighbouring pin? |

I didn't code the car yet and didn't install the mirrors either, just to test the switch I plugged it in, but as soon as I plugged the switch in the mirrors got tilted facing downwards, I have removed the soldering to test but it didn't change anything, the mirrors still tilt facing downwards

It doesn’t work that way.
The old mirrors use direct communication from the switch, in other words the logic is in the switch and the motors are directly powered through the Switch. The new mirrors are connected through the LIN-bus to the switch. The logic is now in the mirror-electronics and the switch is only sending a digital command and then processed by the mirror electronics. In other words, the new switch and the old mirrors are not compatible. You have to replace both at the same time. Last edited by mrpingu; 08-21-2024 at 05:52 AM.. |
