Let's start from the beginning. Has anyone already cut the dashboard to install the Hud? What can you tell me about it?

I already bought the HUD unit (62308736364), insulator (62309323177), Trim piece (51459292127), and the wire that is connected from the custer to the head up displays unit.

I have doubts about the diagram to connect the 2 power wires.

Yes, it was one of the first retrofits I carried out. I changed and installed the 6wa cluster with HUD connection.

Please share your doubts about power in more specific way.

Cannot answer for the cutout, you probably have the check if that is marked. If not you will have to buy new dash.

I believe that the correct Pn for my windshield is 51317350601. So together with Hup I will install the Kafas.

About the dashboard, it is not an option and it is a very large product to import. It would be almost impossible.
So, I'm considering making the cut with Dremel.

About the hup wiring diagram. The cabling has an integrated 4-way X type and another 2 power wires that must be connected to the cluster connector.
However, I didn't find information about which PIN I should use on the cluster connector.

Unsure how the dash looks like without HUD. Unsure if it is possible at all because you need to mount the HUD somewhere as well. If you look at A94.png attachment you see there are tabs with screw holes, not sure if they are present on non-HUD dash or marked.

About powersupply; Does the other attached images help? (first is only legend about shielding )

EDIT: Found also connector numbers

EDIT2: You know you would also need new carrier for dashboard? Part no 51459355702

I connected the power to the cigarette socket at the cup holder.

The hole was but by cutter.

But you have to aware that, when you take off the dash, there is a pipe frame where the hud sits on. Bmw cut cost that you may only got one side of metal bar holding the hud.the other side is missing

Sorry for the delay... I was on vacation for a few weeks.
Probably the tubular structure of my dashboard is not exactly the one for HUD installation.
So I have 2 viable options.
1- Install the HUD and fix only one side and check if it is firm enough.
2- Adapt some type of support on the existing structure.

Replacing the entire tubular dashboard support is not feasible. I don't have access to this type of part in Brazil.

So... as soon as I returned I replaced the windshield.
It was the only one unit available at BMW in BR compatible with Kafas and HUD.
I believe that I will install Kafas first and than proceeding with HUD.
Kafas is easier at this point.

Was wondering what happened with you :P
Good to see some progress on your car!

i think you should be able to either 3d print or weld an extra support I guess.
Kafas should not be too difficult now, lucky you that you sourced the windscreen with both HUD & KAFAS.

Does anyone here on the forum have the factory HUD, can you please send a cutting guide?

Just remove the top cover, place any A4 paper and scratch it with a pencil on top. This way I will know exactly where to cut.

Thanks

Hi I just saw your post asking someone on YouTube about the cutting template. But honestly what I saw they didn’t make the hole exactly centered so I believe you will do well. They didn’t even have the windscreen replaced like you did and the double image projected.

Hi mrpingu,

My car is undergoing maintenance. As soon as I have it again I will make a quick video to demonstrate the idea that can help me follow the HUD project.

The top cover that Im reffering to is the one the image. Fitted with clips.

Thanks,

Exactly Limsheng, I contacted them but in talking to the technician they don't follow a recipe. They simply cut until the piece fits. Honestly, I prefer to do it more carefully, following original factory standards.

Finally my car returned.
In addition to the usual inspection, engine oil change, filters, I took the opportunity to change the automatic transmission and haudex oil.

About the HUD, what I have in mind is just remove the top cover. Which should be easy as it is fixed by the metal clips as shown in the photo.

And with a piece of paper and a pencil, copy the cut that needs to be made to install the HUD and also this contour line as I copied it on my sheet to guide me.

It's easier to do with Tracing Paper or transparent paper, but I didn't have any one of that righ now.

Here I used A4 size.
If you could help me with this part and send the scanned image that would be great! Thanks,

Here are some photos when i did the retrofit
As I mentioned, one mounting bar is missing
I can only mount the hud unit on one point

The other photo is hud running without cover.
I trimmed it a few times until the cover could be fitted in

What is your opinion on HUD fixation? Even with just 1 attachment point, is the set stable during travel? or you new unwanted vibration? Thank you,
