TPMS Inactive - What else could it be?
I kept getting the TPMS inactive light occasionally, it literally stayed on for 5 seconds, if that, and could show up 3 times per trip, or once a week. I finally took my car in last December to get it looked at. They told me it was the RDC Control Unit, the receiver for the TPMS signals, replaced it under warranty, and sent me on my way. However, not even a week later I got the warning light again.
Fast forward to last week, my car was in for maintenance so I had them take another look. I was told it was a faulty pressure sensors this time, and that it wasn't covered under warranty. So I shell out $150 for the sensor and labor, and go on my way. Not even two days later the light comes on, and stays on! Now it's on constantly and lights up as soon as I start the car. Any idea what else could be causing it? It's going back to the dealer soon, but after two tries, I don't have a lot of confidence in them. |

Had the same problem, the dealer replaced the right rear TPMS and the control unit for that tire. On my way home from the dealer at about 30 miles got the TPMS inactive light again. Took back to dealer and replaced the remaining three wheels TPMS, problem solved, all under warranty

bad battery, aka you need new sensors (i suggest you get the other 3 changed)...they are suppose to be good for up to 4 years but sometimes not.

If you mix-match old sensors with one newer style sensor, it will always work for a short time then fail again.. Need to replace the remaining three sensors.

Finally got my car into the dealer to address this. Turns out it's the RDC unit again. This is the third one and the car isn't even three years old. What gives?

I don't know if you guys ever figured it out. I had same deal, car under warranty so took it in. Effectively this is the warning you get when you have a TPMS system component malfunction (in my case TPMS sensor).

tpms
I really dislike this system! Its too expensive and fails too often. If you can figure out how to put gas in the car you can check tire pressure. My rant for another government mandated item.

Can you take a pic and point to where it is? I have my front bumper replaced and the front right TPMS is throwing an error.

Mine was on the inner fender liner of the front passenger wheel. That's where that particular module was that unplugged. There's also one on the driver side. You can't see it from the wheel well. Actually have to take the wheel off and pull the liner a bit.
