All-season up front, summer in rear?

I know, I know, mixing tires isn't the best thing. But, right now I have Michelin Sport A/S Plus (all-season) all around (225's front, 255's rear), and the rears are just about slicks. I'm going to need to replace them very soon, but don't think I can afford new tires in all 4 corners. So, I'm wondering if I could get Michelin Super Sports (summer) just for the rears, same speed rating. Well obviously I could, but what kind of handling implications might it have? I live in sunny San Diego, so snow and even cold temps aren't a factor.

On a side note, I'm guessing having all-seasons (and no tread) would explain why I can't go near full throttle anywhere under 30 mph without traction control flipping out and/or the tail end coming out. I just want to be able to start from a stop at a "brisk" pace and not have the car fall flat on its face because I don't have any grip and traction control / the "amazing" e-diff can't deal with it. Oh, and the risk of a blowout and all..

No problem with it.

For DD, I agree with Shock. I'd just stay away from performance driving until you had matching compounds. I'd replace the rears and get matching fronts when you can afford it. Keep in mind you can always dismount the A/Ss on front and try to sell them here on the forum assuming they have some decent life in them. This could help you get the matching fronts sooner.

Thanks for the info guys! I was afraid I might run into understeer or oversteer issues. This isn't track use, though, just spirited driving

To those who know their brands.. which would be better: going with the setup I mentioned, or, going with Continental ExtremeContact DW's all around? I think I could swing that for all 4, but definitely not Michelins all around.

You should get about 90% of the performance of the PSS from the Conti DW's and they actually last slightly longer according to some people. They also have a softer sidewall which translates to a smoother everyday ride.

I was actually going through tire rack yesterday and found the hankook ventus noble's ultra high perform all seasons with excellent all season traction and bout 100 cheaper for all 4 than the conti dw's...the reviews I saw had people comparing the two and very disappointed with the continentals...my next four are going to be these prob around the end of summer considering the 4 kumho ecsta 4x's I bought last April have about 15000 miles and the rears are just above maybe 4/32 which is ridiculous and no intense driving either...def take a look into those hankooks!

OP - It's never recommended that you mix up tire brands or models. Many people do it for daily driving and don't have much of an issue, but if there's a situation where you need the car to be predictable, you might be in a bit more trouble than with four of the same brand and model. I would try and get either a pair of Michelin PSS or a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Pluses in the sizing you need.
