135i and snow tires
What snow tires are you all running on your 135i's? I have a line on a set of 264 wheels but want to make sure I can get snow tires which will fit them. I saw a thread on BMW vs snow and see a number of different combinations. Some are running 17s. Some are on their stock 18" wheels. What wheel and tire combinations work with my 135i?
Thanks. |

I have this setup for me as well on my 18" stock wheels. They have performed incredibly well in conditions where I didn't think I would get home. The car and those tires pushed thru with little-to-no issues. |

225/45-17 aftermarket 17x7.5" rims with Sottozero Serie II on our 135i, too. Very good performers in the very cold winters with moderate snow we generally get here.

I have 205/50/17 federal Himalayans right now. They're not really popular tires but have served me well over the last 5 years. I've only been stuck once and that was during a freak snowstorm and I couldn't make it up a big hill.

Dunlop Winter sports 225/45-17 mounted on my winter wheel set. First winters were Blizzaks.

From a BMW perspective of summer vs winter tyres, here are a series of tests conducted by CAR magazine at cool but above freezing temperatures (about 3C/37F, from what I can determine):
http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...s-M3-Part-One/ http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...s-M3-Part-Two/ http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...r-tyre-test-3/ There is quite a difference of grip level on cool surfaces approaching freezing point in favour of winter tyres, typically they were getting 20% more grip from the winter tyres (in terms of G force) compared with the summer tyres. |

Thanks everyone for the input. I got a set of 264 wheels and will be picking up a set of winter tires based on the recommendations here when my 1er becomes a daily driver.
