Rogue RSM instalation

I am about to install the Rogue RSM on a 2006 3.0si. In this tutorial http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...SM-replacement
It implies that the installation can be performed through the trunk and wheel well without removing the shock from the car. The installation instructions from Rogue say that the shock must be removed form the car to install the RSM's. I don't see why I would need to remove the shocks. Anyone done this that can tell me for sure? Thanks in advance for your comments.

When we installed my KWs we put the RSM's with the shock fully off. I think it is easier to do as you don't get too much room to work with. All I can say is that BMW (over tightening them) and wear/tear probably seized up the stock RSM and it will make your life easier to remove it with the shock off the car. It is much easier removing the rear shocks than the front ones. Probably take 30-60min to do full change over. Give it a try without removing and if takes too long then just take the one bolt off the bottom and remove.

End note. We removed the rogue rsm's because they squeaked too much regardless of how loose or tight we set the bushing.

RSM

There was a one post on this site in which someone said that they had used grease on them because of a squeak. Should I?

Did you need to remove the shocks for the installation?

It's only one bolt at the bottom.
It makes it much easier.

Otherwise you have to try to compress & hold the shaft while you change the RSM

I have torque specs for the other components but not the bottom bolt. Can you tell me what the torque is on that nut when I reinstall the shock?

I would definitely use some lubricant. I used chain lube on mine. It was recommended by a member and I have no squeaking now for two years. Chain lube sets dry.

Yeah I didn't like it one bit so they sit in my basement basically brand new. lol

If the stock ones wear out I can try and lube them up and see if the same issue.
