M Roadster Value
Has anybody kept up with the value of our cars lately? I know for a fact that last year around this time my car was worth around $26300 private party value via KBB. This year I checked and its over $32000. I know KBB isn't the best tool to use, Galves is and usually only accessible by a dealer. Can anybody elaborate a bit on this? I was looking to trade my car in but if the price is readily rising due to the rarity I may just hang on to it for a while...

I'm not sure if mine has risen in value (maybe a tiny bit) but it really hasn't dropped on KBB since I checked it back when I bought it like 2 years ago.

I know 40k or 50k...or even 30k maybe is kinda ridiculous but I always marvel at what Top Gear or Fifth Gear can buy cars for in the UK. Cash for Clunkers/different area or whatever...makes me sad. You can't buy shit for a reasonable price in the US. I just tried to buy something sensible a few months ago for a reasonable price. No dice. Progress! Wooooo!

Tune in to the auctions on Velocity once in a while. In general, the collecor market seems to be softening for many types of cars, such as muscle cars. One can buy a lot of (new vintage) performance for what the high values once represented for collectors. What seems to be attracting big buck buyers is uniqueness and rarity. We may have a fighting chance for future collectibility by sticking as closely as possible to stock configurations. That does not necessarily mean bone stock, but combinations of BMW OEM parts that offers
performance upgrades. Authentic CSL parts might be a good example. Of course they were not offered on the E85 / E86 M's, but many of these parts fit and work well. Also check out the many factory accessories that were offered through dealers. There was not a huge option list for new M's, and these accessories add some values.

I'm currently selling my 2007 M roadster for $30k. It's in pristine condition and has only 28k miles on it. It also has the ARC EC-7 wheels, a $1k upgrade.
No nibbles whatsoever. So frankly not only am I a little skeptical as to KBB value, but I'm also a little skeptical about what some people on this website think these cars are worth. Personally the coupe doesn't do anything for me aesthetically, but maybe they are worth a few schillings more. I'm not overly concerned about my sale because I don't "have" to sell it, and I'll probably push a little harder in spring. |

Most used M Roadsters are under $24,000.
Most used M Coupes are under $30,000. It has been the same or consistent the past 12+ months.

Depends a lot on the miles too. A lot of the $30k+ cars are under 30k miles. Over 50K seems to drop value a lot.

I agree with this assessment. I watched the market for the last year or so. Even though the roasters cost more new, they are not as rare nor as desirable as the coupe, therefore fetch substantially less. Supply and demand dictates value. The market is pretty flat.

Not bad though
I bought my M-coupe 3years ago when it was - 3 years old and so far it hasn't depreciated 20 bucks which is a LOT better than the 911, 996 and 944 that I had.
Most go down 30% in 2 years and then 5% or so till they die - This is one of 50 I have had that has not - not a lot of them around either and with write offs etc fewer all the time. Never gonna do what 70's muscle cars did and especially for us that mod the shit out of them but its great to at least not be losing a ton a year

I have been getting these "urges" to trade mine in. I have looked at the Boxter S and Cayman S. Like the cayman much more, but not convertible so no go. Porsche dealer offered me 23K for my 2008 Z4MR with 38K. I was like bubye, told them we can start to talk at 25K, they haven't called back

I know, truth is I am tempted, but I put the 25K number in there just to use it a buffer so that they don't call me because I would hate to have another car payment, just getting used to not paying this one! Oh well, Loved the 2014 Cayman S and the Boxer is really nice, but for some reason it simply doesnt speak to me like the other one does. Tested the F-Type, but the one I like is priced out of my range, BTW they do sound amazing!

This all assumes that you are able to find the car you want. I traveled half way across the US to purchase my car because I wanted a AW with dark sepang interior. I never saw one for a year of looking and haven't seen one since. I probably over paid, but............I love my car. No regrets.

I will be seriously looking for a Z4MR in February or March, but I have been tracking the prices and the length of time they are for sale on AutoTrader. I actually had a spreadsheet, but that computer crashed and I lost it. I can tell you that they stay on there a looooong time. It's obvious to me that it's a buyers market. If it's a dealer they put it up for what I consider a price that's too high, then they pull them off after about 3 weeks to a month then re-list it for $2k lower, or they just lower it and it says "reduced". They usually reduce the price 1 to 3 or more times before it disappears. Then there are some private sellers who have had their cars on there for more than six months. I've been seriously tracking it for about six months and there are a number of cars that were there when I started and are still there. I've even seen a few that I think are pretty good prices but they just haven't moved.
Like I said, I will be serious looking for a really nice Z4MR early next year, so if you guys are seriously looking to sell, please feel free to PM me. I'd prefer to buy from an enthusiast that I can talk to. Having said all that, $32k is not even close to what they're selling for. |

Sounds high for a roadster, though not outrageously so at that mileage. As for your wheels being a "$1k upgrade", I'd consider them about a $1k deduction - they're just Chinese BBS knockoffs. I'd put the stockers back on if still available, and sell those off someplace. GLWS.
