Highway Debris...

WTF. I'm driving on I-93 just north of boston when a piece of metal (i think...maybe wood) flies accross the the road and hits the lower front of the car. I had nowhere to go and no way to not get hit. As soon as it hit and made this horendous sound I was like oh shit...not good. Then it doesn't come out the back for about 30 seconds when it finally dislodged itself and got run over by the guy behind me.

Anyway. I checked it out when I got where I was going and there were some scratches around the brake air intake on that side. Tires seemed ok. I noticed some water dripping from underneath, but it was clear like actual water and it didn't smell like gasoline, so I'm thinking condensation or just water from the wet road. When I checked it again as i was leaving, there weren't any leaks.

Aside from the minor cosmetic issues, how much could have been screwed up underneath the car? I'm thinkin if there aren't any leaks or puddles underneath when I pick it tomorrow it should be ok. Shit like this pisses me off.

yeah... southern california is having a heavy semi-tire shrapnel season. I can't remember when i've seen so many tire belts on the road.

sux.

In the past few days I've seen; a bucket, a cardboard box, a full painted JDM front bumper, and a wheel barrel. Each day is a new adventure, people need to be castrated for dropping stuff on the freeway and just leaving it, it's such a danger to every single driver.

theres so many plastic guards under the car i dont think something that minor would be able to get through and do any damage to any lines or anything.

The water dripping from underneath is probably from your use of A/C. Mine "pees" whenever my A/C has been on during my drives.

Yup... gotta be careful. I've rolled over pieces of wood, and a bouncing sneaker got my bumper once. Luckily, it was on my last car.

Yeah, you have to really watch out for carcases here in Iowa, they are all over the place. I hit a deer carcas in my last car (a Civic) and it did some damage, I don't want to try that in my Z. I nearly hit a ladder that came off the back of a truck last summer and the worst was 2 years ago when a semi dropped it's drive train right in front of me... at night. That was a nice 7 car accident (and the poor truck had no way of making a getaway)

Well in the .2 seconds I had between the time i saw it and when it hit the car, I at first thought it was a plastic bag or piece of paper...when it hit, I realized it was definately more substantial. Now I have a bumper with some noticible scratches on it.

I know right...now I got some nasty scratches on the bumper. At least it's plastic down there don't have to worry about it rusting...lol

I'd love to drive it more. I got 13000 on it in about 7 months, which is a pretty fair amount of driving. I think next summer I'll get in on some BMW CCA events and have some fun It's been a while since I hit autobahn speeds

My brother had a run in with one of those in his 330. $1100 later, he's good as new.

Bro those scratches hurt but it could have been worse, some people lost their cars and worse due to junk related accidents, deer, then there is the giant hairy asterisk from the Bright House commercial...
