Soap isn't really going to be color specific. You just want to make sure you get one that is not so strong that it will strip wax and has enough lubricity to prevent marring when washing. Check some of sponsor sites for a good selection. I've heard good things about Optimum and Poorboys has worked well for me. For an over the counter solution, Meg's Gold Class is decent.

Yep, well stated. Chemical Guys and Poorboys both make good soaps. I use Optimum No Rinse because I live in a townhome without a hose nearby, but I've had great luck with Chemical Guys stuff in the past. As stated, if you're just picking something up from a local place, Meguairs will do fine.

Should be fine, I've heard that's a decent over the counter soap as well. I've never used it though. If you feel like it, try something else when it's gone for a comparison.

I like Chemical guys citrus wash. You also must have ONR on hand. A good no rinse wash and a good clay lubricant.

I've used the Mothers as an OTC wash. Performs well. No complaints.

I usually use Zymol "clear" car wash soap as my main product in washing my car.

Be sure to use a 2-3 bucket wash proceure with a few sheepskin (or mf) wash mits so you avoid any scratching. Harder to make mistakes that way (++extra mits and buckets)

As others have noted color doesn't matter really in shampoo selection and we have a huge selection in our Washing & Drying section. If you want to remove some of the old wax and sealant the Chemical Guys Citrus Wash is a great product. If you want a maintenance shampoo that won't strip protection the Chemical Guys GlossWorkz Shampoo. Save 10% off as well with the coupon code 10offBMW1 if interested.
