Mulling over trading 07 M5 for a 2010 X5M

I'm hoping someone on the board can help me with my decision. I've been mulling over whether I should get rid of MY07 for a 2010 X5M (Silverstone Silver). I test drove it yesterday and it was awesome. I'm not a crazy big fan of SUV but this is unlike any SUV I've ever driven. My wife is currently driving an 08 X5, which I do like to drive alot as well. I've spotted a very nice X5M which I'm seriously considering. But I just don't want to make the same mistake I made years back when I got rid of my 6spd Acura Legend for an Acura MDX. I missed the 6spd so much after a year that I had to look for another one and got rid of the MDX. I wanted to see if anyone here have made the switch and what they thought about the X5M. Thanks.

I had a GT500 Shelby convertible (2010) that I traded for a new, 2011 X5M. The HP and adrenaline rush I use to get while driving the GT500 is actually exceeded when driving the X5M. For me, I wanted something that was nice to drive, comfortable, powerful & built well. The GT500 was great except it was not as enjoyable to drive.

IMO, you won't regret it; if you need to change gears, stick in "M" mode & manual & shift using paddle shifters.

Do it but you can also consider X6M since your wife drives X5.

Kiet - I just traded in my 2009 x35d for a 2010 X5M. I was going to keep the 35d and get an M5 as a occasional car, but chose to take the middle road and go with the X5M. Since I'm going from X5 to X5 it's not the same transition that you're contemplating but I'm happy with the move. That said, the X5M is in the shop now for a variety of things (water pump recall, intake leak, tow hitch reprogramming- not so happy about this) and I'm driving a loaner 528xi. The things i miss with the X5 now that I'm driving the 5 series on a daily basis is the ride height and corresponding vision, the rear seat room (i can fit three car seats across in the x5 but not in the 5 series - a very personal aspect), and rear cargo area (though the 5 series has a pretty cavernous trunk). The m5s I drove were much more refined and "tight" than the X5m, the x5m is much more refined and tight than my 35d (with sport and adaptive suspension), but they are all great. I suspect that you'll find the X5m to be similar to your wife's X5, but very different in a good way once you get more time in it. I like my X5M better the more I drive it. I guess it all depends on lifestyle, driving conditions where you drive (lots of semis and truck here that make having a higher driving position and advantage) and what you are used to. Since you've been around the X5, i'm not saying anything that you don't already know. Keep us posted on what route you go and make sure you get as much warranty as possible...

After 3 6sp M3s I went to a X5M I can't believe how much happier I am with this. I don't think about shifting, especially in M Mode! :-)

One thing to consider is that the X5M is and feels much heavier than the M5.
Drive it as extensively as you can to see how you feel about this.
