They did it again...

With my last "freebie" oil change, my dealer overfilled by what appeared to be over a Liter again...unfreaking believable This is after I specifically told them to only filled it to 5.5L and that they had overfilled it every single time that I had an oil change there. The invoice stated 6L used, but after I pulled out approx. 1L, the dipstick still showed the level right at the full mark. My last invoice, believe it or not, showed that they used 7L!!!

Well...with my expiring maintenance, at least I don't have to suck oil out of my engine everytime after a new oil change anymore

Sorry for the vent

Dude that sucks. Have you tried looking for a new Service Advisor...or even a new dealership? I actually end up driving 30 minutes out of my way even though there is a dealer within 10 minutes of my place because I have an SA I can trust at the further place.

Cheers to expiring maintenance

Just last week when I took the car in to get the A/C fixed, I requested they check the power steering for leaks because I've heard about that a lot on our cars. The SA assured me that I have electronic steering I mean... if the customer requests it, wouldn't you make damn certain to check first before looking like an ass?

Not it they are actually a clueless ass, which that SA one clearly was!

Is the A/C fixed? What was the issue?

X-Metal, did they actually use the right oil? Find another BMW dealership. That one stinks.

Broken belt. Thankfully the easiest problem to fix.

The work order indicates the correct TWS oil, at least. Believe it or not, there's a dealer that's closer to me that is actually worst.

Glad to see that it was an easy fix

I've tried a different SA every single time with the same result...most likely an issue with the dealership. For now, with the expiring warranty/maintenance, the MC will not see a dealership again, if I can help it.

Its because of posts like this, I have decided NOT to extend my factory maint/warranty program thru BMW that expires in 3 days.... Since acquiring the ///M late last year, I have pulled a complete 180 on how I feel about the dealership service levels in general.

As a matter of fact I am going outside right now to check my oil level as the dealership was the last one to change it.

See this TSB => http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=19.

Things like this is also reason why I would NOT buy a car without an actual dipstick if I can help it. You can completely drown the engine and the electronic sensor would still only read "FULL".

^ Highly doubt a dealer monkey would even notice, or care if they did notice.

On the current dipstickless BMWs a warning is given if the oil is overfilled. The OBC displays ">MAX"

The way most dealers go through service staff, and because Z4 Ms are rather far and few between, it's highly likely that you'll get a SA who either doesn't know what it is at all, or if they do they don't know a thing about it. Probably why the one guy thought it had electric steering.... If it's not a 3 or a 5, they are probably clueless. Point being, you cannot go in there expecting a SA to know a damned thing about the car - all they do it plug problems into an algorithm that tells them what to do. Best thing to do, get friendly with the shop foreman of shop manager - these guys tend to actually know about the car. It can be hard to get around the SA to these guys, but it's most definitely in the best interest of your car and your wallet.

While this is probably true, it is unacceptable. It's their job. And they're only dealing with one make. There aren't that many variants to be unable to distinguish between them. PLUS if they come across a car that is rare, shouldn't he say to himself "Hm... a Z4 "M"... never heard of it... I ought to look into this since the customer requested it." PLUS this guy was an older gentleman with awards littering his desk.

I suppose if you call the dealership's manager, complain, and demand to deal directly with the shop manager, that would work. Unfortunately I am not that socially aggressive.

As the oil is out of a container and not out of a gun, make sure you ask for the .5 back. It will ensure they use the right amount and it'll give u a top-up down the road. Works for me.
You can say 5.5 until you're blue in the face. Dealerships seems to have tunnel-vision

I've had one SA who got the job done correctly. She circled the 5.5L on the work order with big black permanent marker. Not to mention she's fairly attractive and wears 5" heels every day

Still, this will not indicate how much overfilled. It could be anywhere from just barely overfilled to who knows what.

Not quite as awesome as the pretty young woman who works at a local dealer here and owns a Z3M.. and has a picture hanging at her desk of her with it on the track

So you're saying the tech should be able to identify the engine by sight? Not to mention the huge ///M badge on it? This is certainly too much to ask.

Is the oil pan the same size on the Z as it is on the M3? In other words, do M3 and Z4M both use 5.5L of oil?
