Knight Rider LED bar..(BMW i8)
I LOVE how the kidney grille in the BMW i8 looks in Mission Impossible 3. I was looking for something similar (not anything tacky or cheap) that would go behind my Z4 grille and just show the glow (night and day) and not the light itself. I wanted to hide the bar and have it glow white through the grille. Do you think this is a good idea? Does anyone have any good suggestions on where to buy something like this that would put out this kind of light?
Thank-you in advance! |

I hate ricer type stuff. I just really like this mod for some reason. My car is blacked out, so the white light would set it off and match the angel eyes as well. I guess I could always see what it would look like and if it sucks, I can just yank it back off.

It looks cool on the i8 because it's a car that looks like it belongs in a movie.

There is a red z4 roadster from Japan that has led DRL in the brake ducts on a m bumper. Looks alright. Making it fit oem is the trick to looking good

A neon tube on the inside of the bumper would probably get the effect you want. you could try testing the idea with a work light or something by popping one of the grills out and putting it in there.
I'm with the others that it probably would end up looking tacky though. To each his own, but if you pull it off and you like it, it is YOUR car, do what makes you happy.

You can put in an LED strip. This one has a remote not only for power, but also to change the colors and the effects. http://www.automotivelightstore.com/v2Scannerrgb.aspx

I'm all over the KITT light bar...but only if also talks...and says really cool things to me when I talk to my car...and makes snarky comments to my wife when she tries to talk to it.
Seriously, there was a time for the KITT thing and that time has passed I'm sorry to say. If you want to fit with the "in" crowd you could add some Phillips white LED strips somewhere in the lower grill area, I guess. Looks cool, most probably makes your car stand out a little to the LEO's out there. |
