Soon to be z4 driver
I am looking to join the Z4 ranks. Looking at a 2008 3.0. Please excuse the newb question, but these cars all have power tops, right?? This one will unlatch from windshield when you hold the retract button but the top doesn't move. You can hear a faint motor running as long as e button is held. I suspect a bad top motor/hyd pump. It also will not close under its own power. Same motor noise with no motion. Thanks

That does sound like a faulty hydraulic roof motor, although as the 2006 and later cars have better sealed motors, one would think that would be fairly rare.
not all these cars have power tops. Every now and then, one turns up with a manual top. I understand that the tops of manual roof cars have less sound and thermal insulation, so be careful if those are important to you.

Yup, if you have the roof up and down buttons on the console, it is a power top equipped car.

Don't kow about warranty. From what Carfax shows it was titled 3/31/08 and currently has 42000 miles on it. I'm just trying to join the BMW car world (have had BMW bikes for several years) so unsure of warranty.

The warranty just ended yesterday(4yr/50k) if you got the car to a dealer posthaste they may goodwill it.

Rocko,
The nonfunctioning top should dictate a hefty discount from the price paid. I don't know the cost of replacing the motor, since mine was done under warranty, but I gather that it's pretty significant. Rick F. |
