Exhaust possibilities (Canada)
Has anyone here in the Great White North replaced their stock exhaust? I'm looking for something a little more 'throaty' but not annoying. I know it's all personal preference but today I took a 1M for a test-drive and, wow, did I ever love the sound!
My engine sound is still perfect, but there has to be something coming out the back that is better than factory. Suggestions? PS The reason why I say 'in Canada' is because of insane shipping and duty charges from the US. |

I just got magnaflow cans with CC inserts and they are perfect. Not too loud but just loud enough to give you a little grumble. Just took a 200 mile road trip and at cruising speed they are barely noticeable especially with music on

There are some Canadian sources but it generally works out much cheaper to import from the US.
...there are options to avoid the border costs from the likes of UPS. It also depends what you're looking for in a system. The suggestion above can also be a good way to go. Also watch the classifieds here; ....that's how I found mine.

You just have to have a muffler shop do the set up magnaflow doesnt have a premade bolt on exhaust for the z4m. If you search magnaflow on here there is a guy that gives the part # for the mufflers you need and has detailed pics

I bought a set of rogue enginneering diablos for my m coupe, they are bolt on and I bought them from the US, but I haven't had a chance to install them yet(the car is stored for the winter). As soon I do I'll let you know.

Thanks for the advice. I will explore the options and see what comes up. I like that you can 'sample' the sound on Youtube for many systems. The diablos sound pretty close to what I'm after, but that may just be the recording.

We'll be recording different systems with decent, consistent stereo sound (hopefully).

I'm out of town now but my bolt-on Magnaflow will be for sale soon once I get back home in 2 week.. It's got custom weld on flanges, hangers and dual slanted tips.

im thinking of trying this from the other forum... you get a 3/4" pipe manufactured then use it to bypass the muffler. seems to add a nice raspy tone to it when you want to hear it... there if a video and discussion here: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=35500

You don't have much to lose if JDN34's Magnaflow setup is close by. Otherwise, Remus is a great way to go.

I would definitely second the Remus. It is easy to live with and has a very nice tone. It is not unusual to hear complementary comments from folks when they hear how it sounds. The biggest danger in sellecting an exhaust is living with it over the long run. Sort of like a wife, gggg. What sounds exotic and sexy for a day, may very well become a pounding headache over time. The Remus exhaust is simply satisfying on all levels with the slight exception that it isn't cheap to buy.

Guys, thanks for all the advice and offers. I'll be making my decision later today when I find out if I still have a job. I work for the Federal Government as a Park Ranger and there are BIG cuts in the wind. First time in over 20 years without work would be a sad day indeed, especially when you love your job.
