ED Planning. Routes ETC
Starting my planning for my ED May 2. Looking for 5-7 days of driving with drop off at either Munich, Geneva, Zurich or Paris.
I see there are threads on ED experiences but anything on planning or does anyone have suggestions? Thanks. |

I did an ED on a M3 sedan about three years ago. My trip was with my wife and three kids so it was more about sight seeing than great roads. We took three weeks end of April into May. I would suggest you take as much time as you can. We dropped our car in Paris which worked out great.
Our route was Munich-Salzburg-Venice-Panzano in Tuscany-Lucerne-Langres-Paris. I would spend less time in Italy and more time in the Alps next time around. For way more information and details on routes, head over to Bimmerfest. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25 Let me know if I can help. Have a great trip!

Can't go wrong with a nice road trip across the Alps and down into Italy. I was there the same time last year, and made the 4 1/2 hour trip by GPS (Garmin with Europe maps). Took me through Austria and Switzerland, with amazing sights all along the way. The route avoided some of the higher Alpine passes, which might still have snow. Also check out bimmerfest forum- they have an extensive ED advice section.

Thanks guys. I was hoping to head south and hit some of the popular passes but they won't be open. I live in Toronto so early May was essential; I wanted the majority of summer left after re-delivery so delaying ED for this is not poss.
Plan B was to head north and see the Normandy beaches making a stop at the Ring. Then out of nowhere my CA shows me a list of the ED drop off locations and all non-German drop off locations have an $800 surcharge. I had read a pile of info on this and it was the same pamphlet only this one was the first to mention $800 surcharge. Original plan was to drop off in Paris. Now I'm wondering on a route. Salzburg/Berchtesgaden was one I wanted to see again, perhaps Prague. The trip is gonna be expensive and that 800 bucks is not a game changer just a sudden surprise that kinda pissed me off. Anyways I'll check that link for sure. I need to drop it off in either Paris, Geneva, Frankfurt, Munich. And I only have 7 days...... Or I might just go with a small plan and just drive..... Cheers fellas. Best, J. |

No the $800 dollars applies to ALL locations outside of Germany. I had seen the fine print in the CA paperwork where Italian drop offs would encounter a charge but no actual number was mentioned. Paris, Geneva, Zurich, all the non-Germany locals in this BMW document resulted in the $800 surcharge.
I had looked into and read a bunch of info supplied by BMW and on here and the US BMW site. They were all the same. This new one has me wondering if it is new to the program for 2012 or new to Canadian customers for 2012. The only mention of additional charges in previous literature concerned Italian drop offs only. |

I'm picking up my highly anticipated e92 m3 on April 20th, and I am trying to plan a 7 day trip myself... Stelvio Pass is definitely out do to weather, but Interlaken via the alps should still be amazing. Then cut north for the Black Forest, then to Nurburgring, and finally dropping off in Frankfurt. Any advice, suggestions?
