Eibach w/ e36 bumpstops and shaved guide supports right for me?

Hey guys,

I am an e90 owner, and my car does not have EDC. I love the suspension of the m3, but my main qualms are two. The car sits too high stock, even higher than an msport 335, and the car seems to have a lot of suspension travel.

I would like to alleviate at least one of those issues. I would say from looking at pictures, that an eibach level drop is enough for me.

It seems like for people like me, the two main choices are eibach with e36 bump stops and shaved strut mount guides or the dinan stage 1 setup.

I feel like the dinan setup is too expensive for what it is and also the drop is too small in pictures that I have seen.

My question is, how necessary is it to shave the strut mount guides when installing the eibach? Would a setup with the e36 bump stops and shaved strut mount guides provide a quality ride? How different would a setup be with just the e36 bump stops?

Thanks for your help, I am not trying to go cheap here, but I just want to make sure that I am getting the best value here and best fit for my needs.

Right now I am leaning towards eibach springs, e36 bumpstops and finding someone to shave the guide supports or going with a TCK S/A setup. My primary goal is good ride quality with a good look.

Thanks in advance.

Kenny I think you are on the right path. Did you contact Malek? I believe he can get a set for you shave them and have them shipped to you. Unless you plan on seriously tracking the car going with a adjustable setup for corner balancing just seems like overkill and you may have to deal with NVH issues.

I plan on doing something similar to what you posted for my ZCP, however without the springs just to lower my ZCP car another .25" or so.

kinda late response. I dont have EDC. I only installed the Eibach and e36 bump stops. The ride is like stock and handle is diffidently noticeable/better on the turns. You'll be happy with the spring/bump stop combo as a daily driver

I did H&R with the E36 bumpstops but no shaved guides and I am happy with it.

I also did the e36 bumpstops without the shaved guides and the ride is fine. There is less body roll during hard cornering and I want to say the ride is even more comfortable than stock when EDC is set to comfort mode. I've gone almost 10k miles with the Eibachs w/ e36 bumpstops and I'm pretty happy with them. Not going to give up my EDC for coil overs and those sleeve kits make no sense since the stance with the Eibachs is already perfect. The only advantage is to be able to corner balance but I really don't care, it feels pretty balanced when I'm at the track. Just more weight and more stuff to go wrong.

Mark I know you said you didn't think Dinan had enough of a drop but I am going to moving to KW Clubsports soon and will have my Dinan Stage 1 kit for sale if you are interested.

I used the E36 bump stops as well as shaved the OEM mounts when I installed my Eibachs. Ride quality is very close to stock, and I still have all of the stock travel.

Here's a side shot of mine. Keep in mind I've got snows tires that aren't as tall as stock, so more gap shows. (235/40/18f and 255/40/18r)
