Scratched Steering Wheel Roundel

I don't know how it happened (during service ?) but I just noticed that my steering wheel roundel has 2 small scratches along the lower right side. I know that these are impossible to replace because of the Airbag design. Anyone have any ideas or experience with a polish or technique to lessen the scratch ? It's REALLY annoying me.

Thanks,

Joseph

Not impossible, but impossible to replace without the huge expense of replacing part of the airbag assembly. The roundel is not available as a stand alone part.

You can buy a stick-on "overlay" from a number of vendors, such as Jlevisw, etc. My steering wheel emblem was pretty scuffed up, and I decided to replace all my roundels with black/silver cf. The replacements for the hood, deck, and wheels are all OEM BMW parts that have been re-faced with the cf roundel design. The one for the steering wheel is a thin metal overlay with adhesive on the back. They have the stock blue and white roundels available as well as colors.

The roundel in my steering wheel developed an odd kind of bubbling in the finish. I asked them to replace it as a warranty item and my dealer agreed. If I remember correctly, they just replaced the cover, not an entire airbag assembly. I can check my paperwork when I get home.
Do you have the M wheel?

Sorry, was incorrect. They replaced the entire airbag module, p/n 32-60-6-779-826. No price listed since it was warrantee.

I thought so : (

So does anyone know if a bit of polish would work ? If so, what type to use... the coating seems rather soft.

I don't know how scuffed yours is... but mine got scuffed once and all I did was wax it with regular car wax and it looks as good as new.

Could that be dangeours if the airbag goes off? I know, you are not doing so well if the airbag goes off. Could that metal works like a knife?

No, it's no more "dangerous" than the original emblem itself - the center of the steering wheel splits and the emblem would not strike you.
