3rd Stop Light (Trunk) is Dead

I just went to get my annual MA inspection and found out the 3rd light is dead. I had the cracked lens problem last year and they wouldn't certify the car with a cracked lens so I changed the light. Then a few months ago the light bulb warning on the dash lit up. I checked all the lights and everything was working and the warning turned off after a few mins. Now the light is totally out and no dash lights either.
This is what I've done so far: bought one of those LED strips off ebay to check the wiring. Not sure if it's supposed to work but when I connect it to the wiring it doesn't light up either. This is the one I got:

Right now nothing is connected to the wiring but the dash warning light is still not on. Shouldn't it come on if the lights are disconnected?

Any ideas?

Not sure, but try using CHMSL (center high mounted stop lamp) as a search term. It's a ridiculous acronym for a simple thing, but it may give you better search results.
