Double duty brake pads
I'm planning to take my car to the track but read that stock brakes fade easilly. Can someone recommend pads that can be used in the street that can also perform well on a track. I really don't want to change the complete braking system. Just looking for pads that can resist fade better than the stock ones. Also, do racing pads squeak a lot? I'm really looking foward to use the car in the environment it was designed for (except for the brakes, apparently).

I've had great luck with Stop Tech Street Performance pads. They are as quiet as stock on the street but hold up MUCH better on the track in my experience.

I'll add a vote for the StopTech high performance street pads. These came with my StopTech brake system. I have used them exclusively so far, including one track weekend. They performed great on track, and have been quiet on street. The only compromise for street use is dust. If used aggressively they dust heavily. But, it is an easy dust to clean, probably no worse than the OE pads in that regard. Every track pad I have used (which is a lot) has been totally unsuitable for street use, which is to be expected. While I would not recommend the ST hpsp for aggressive or competitive track use, it worked great for me in 20 minute DE sessions. It is the only pad I have used that has worked for me as dual purpose. Obviously, the big disclaimer is driving style. I've seen folks who go through race pads in a weekend, on the same track that I would get 5 or 6 weekends from pads.

If this is your first event you will be good with the stoptech street performance. The more you do the track events and the faster you get, a separate pad for street and track is best. Also upgrading your brake fluid is a must and if you can get stainless steel brake lines.

RS29s are surprisingly street friendly. Ill probably leave mine in all track season next year. They worked exceptionally well in my AP bbk.

They are very street friendly.A little grabby when cold at low speeds.Amazingly the RS14's are OK on the street also but work much better on the front than the 29's did.Running a RS 14/29 combo has finally given me the front biased brake balance that I find works best with a Stoptech 380/355 setup.

That's what I did with my RS19's on my Mustang Brembo's and they were fine. Quiet(!!!!) with decent street performance although the pedal feels a little soft because they need a bit more pedal pressure. Pulled them at the end of the season and put the stock Ford pads back in for the winter.

Be sure what you get are easy on your rotors. Some pads are not. I have Hawk DTC-70s, which are grippy as heck and very kind to rotors. They do squeak, sometimes quite loudly, when driving around town, if that's a consideration.

As a few people mentioned earlier. I would definitely recommend the Stoptech Street Performance pads. Many of my customers have had only good things to say about them.

Pads
I took delivery of my 2011 E90 in June 2011 and booked two Autumn track days and evaluated the very same scenario (daily driver...maybe I can do a dual-purpose street/track pad). After some research, went with Cool Carbon pads. Results:
1st track day (NHMS) the pads held up okay for the first two lapping sessions. Pad fade set-in by the last two sessions and fun factor came down because I had to be much earlier on the brakes and stopping power was reduced significantly. I removed the Cool Carbons and they had signs of overheating/glazing. Decided to go with dedicated track pads (Pagid RS-19 Front and RS-7 Rear) before my next track day, a few weeks later. 2nd track day (NHMS). Brakes performed flawlessly with excellent stopping power all day through all lapping sessions. The Pagids were just awesome. Going back to stock pads for the winter, once the race pads scrape-off all the bedded-in material from the rotors. Wanted to share my recent experience, having spent over $1,000 in brake pads in two months with this experiment, it's worth some research. Good luck! -Brian |

The ST pads should be easy on rotors, as are the DS2500 and the Pagids.
I have had very good results running DS2500 on street and track, but that was on my old E46 M3 with a Brembo BBK.

If you like the HP Plus, you will love the DS2500. With all the features of the HP Plus, but without the noise and with more consistent brake torque from cold to hot. On top of that, DS2500 is also easier on your rotors.
