Most of us have done dumb things in our cars before, and I like to think that most of us also learn from mistakes that it is a bad idea. Drag racing in public, with a curb at the end of your straight is a bad idea on many levels. Stopping distance goes up as the square of speed, so braking too late in that scenario means that you don't lose the ground of the missed braking point. You also need even more stopping distance for the extra speed you picked up in the process.

Track events are a ton of fun in our cars. Look into getting your friends to do a driving school with you.

Jim

If you don't want to die, stop trying to race in the Kroger parking lot. Big brakes ain't gonna help.

Jim’s comments are spot on. Assuming good pads and tires, a BBK will have virtually no effect on cold stopping distance. I have a StopTech system that I like very much and recommend without hestiation, but it will not keep you out of a curb at the end of a parking lot. I think a….uh…Big Brain Kit may help there, and it’s much cheaper.

Prob should get some driving lessons first instead of being idiots by racing in parking lots.

Wow! Reminds me of the rich kids in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, no brains when it comes to driving but plenty of cash in their pocket to buy the most exotic cars and they crash them like riding camels. There's one born every minute.

OK, OP. You got to understand that BBK are not going to decrease your stopping distance, especially cold braking such as on the road. Same as others have already told you. You buy a BBK for track use or if you're gonna race...on a track! Not the public streets or a parking lot.

Good luck.

A bbk will only reduce stopping distance by a dew feet their real advantage is heat dissipation and consistancy. Would not have really helped at all here. Honestly what you guys look like you were doing seems very very stupid.

Most of the comments here are correct. BBK will not give you much shorter stopping out of the box.

If you must have BBK, Stoptech is an alternative at about 10-15% less than Brembo.

You can get a StopTech kit for less than $5,000 from some venders, but it won't fix the stupidity problem.

Your stock brakes can lock up the wheels. They're FINE for a single stop, or even a few hard stops. Better TIRES will help you stop better, but not by that much. That's just lack of common sense and driving skill.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Maybe he just needs a boot for one of the wheels. It will prevent this issue altogether.

Brakes won't stop stupidity...but get stickier tires if you want more stopping power. R-Comps will shorten your stopping distances.

Something not mentioned yet: track pads, like Hawk DTC-70s. If this happened on your last run, maybe your brakes were running hot? The stock M3 has terrible brake cooling -- no ducting at all. And the stock pads will fail at high temperatures.

Track time is cheap! Forget parking lot warriors, get out and do some real racing on a real track. Puts it all in context.

Unreal Seeing that crash should make you thankful that both you and the Maserati driver aren't dead. But hey, if you think its no big deal, that's your choice. Maybe you should just speed up the process and
