Is there an endemic lowering spring issue with EDC?

It seems I've recently read about a "rash" of issues people have been having with EDC malfunction lights after installing lowering springs.

Is this fact or just my imagination? I'm asking because I'm getting really tempted to install some springs and camber plates, but not at the cost of dealing with EDC lights and dealer questions...

Your input is much appreciated!

I have had Dinan springs on my car for over two years with no problems.

I'm not aware of a spring on the market that causes EDC issues:

- H&R
- Eibach
- RD Sport
- B&G
- Dinan
- KW Sleeve-over kit

All are perfectly fine with EDC.

I had Eibach's on my 2008 for a couple years with no issues. I just got a new set of Eibach's installed on my 2011 and actually did have the EDC malfunction error later the same day... was a quick fix though, I took it back to my shop and they reattached a loose connector. No biggie and it is 100% fine now.

Can you link us to threads discussing issues?

I've had Dinan for 2.5 years with no issues.

I can do a search for the relevant threads, but most complaints that stuck to my mind were EDC malfunction light coming on some time after spring installation.

I was wondering if it has to do with the springs or the fact that the EDC connectors have to be disconnected during install. Wondering if the battery needs to be disconnected etc.

Mine was installed by my BMW technician, so he knew what needed to be connected. Perhaps some independent shops aren't aware of the concerns.

I have H&R springs with E36 M3 bump stops and custom upper guide supports on my 2011 ZCP M3 for over a year now and I have had zero issues and complaints.

Did you do the install yourself? And was the battery disconnected during the installation, or were the EDC connectors simply unplugged?

Yes I have done the install myself, as well as for tons of others here on this forum.

You do not unplug the battery at all. You unplug the EDC connectors at the top of the front shocks. You do not touch the rear connectors for obvious reasons, as there is no need to.
