You have to go to the satellite radio option under the idrive menus, should be under radio. Once your there you should click option or just search around for a phone number that you have to call. Once you call they will set up your account and give you the 1 year free subscription.
I kinda find the satellite radio useless, that's my opinion.

Goto the dealer and ask them to add Sirius. The Sirius module is already in the car it just needs to be enabled via coding.

Costs vary depending on USA or Canada.

There has got to be a hack or something where you can do it yourself...

I bought an X5M and didn't even realize it didn't have satellite radio. But I know all the hardware is there, just not the software and I refuse to pay BMW to "code" it...

if you X5 is a new delivery the dealer should set you up to receive a 1 year free subscription. If your X5 is not new, assuming you have Sirius installed--AND if you have the controller (mouse) for the video display, go to main menu/radio/satillite radio/select a channel and you should receive a message showing sirius phone number 1-999-539-SIRIUS and a 12 digit ESN (electronic serial number) will be displayed. IF you do not have controller and no video screen. You probably have a business radio. Select the button on the radio to flip between FM/AM/CD/SAT and choose SAT for Satellite. Typically channel 1 will display the ESN. Once you have the ESN, call Sirius and wait on hold for 1/2 hour and finally you will be set up. If SAT does not show up, it is likely you do not have Sirius installed.
