Detail Spray as clay lubricant?

I just ran out of my clay lubricant last night and was wondering if there was something I could supplement it with?

I heard that any quick detailer spray would work as a lubricant. Is this true? Are detail spray and clay lube the same thing?

Also, I know you're supposed to throw away clay after it gets pretty dirty. What point is the clay supposed to be considered "too dirty" to use.

You can use quick detailer as clay lube. The clay is too dirty to use if your dropped it or if you can't kneed it so that you have a clean part. If you worried buy new clay its not that expensive and cheaper then marring up your paint with contaminated clay.

I use one cap of Zaino car wash soap in a bottle of water as my clay lube. QD also works but you really need to soak the area and keep the clay gliding so don't skimp.

I error on wasteful side with clay. If I drop it - It goes in the trash. If I'm just getting it pretty nasty from normal use then I toss it out when after kneeding it I still see dirt or specs.

Good luck!

I mostly use detail spray for lube to cut down on the number of products. I use Prima Slick and it is a fantastic lube (and QD as well.)

I wash the car and don't dry it, and use 100% undiluted Meg's quick detailer (the pink stuff). Seems to work better than diluted stuff on a dry car, while removing some work (lazy = efficient) and removing opportunity to introduce scratches through the drying process.

That's not a bad idea...
