Angry Bad luck

My car has experienced some pretty bad luck lately. Three weeks ago a retired Navy captain backed into my car as I was pulling into a parking spot.

I had the fender replaced and it was looking good as new until this last weekend when I parked it in a parking garage and came back to a chip in the paint of the newly painted fender ...

Does the chip look like it was induced by a foreign object? Shopping cart maybe? If not, I would take it back to the shop and claim it was a shitty paint job they did. PS, NJ driver, you gotta come out once we get a meet together

Yeah unfortunately it was pretty obvious that someone hit it with something. The body shop went over the paint job with me in pretty good detail when I picked it up...
When you guys have a meet I will definitely come out though. I'll keep my eye on the NJ section

Wow that sucks. And pretty bad karma to put it on the paint shop. I used the BMW touchup set on a bad scratch I had and buffed it with a higher abrasive polishing pad and scratch remover. Doesn't look too bad now. It burnished the touchup paint bump to a nice shine. Good luck.

HEY! Why not ask the body shop that repaired the car if they can repair this chip for you? They may still have some of the paint and clearcoat in the shop, and in view of the business you very recently gave them, they may cut you a break via a good price.

Couldn't hurt to ask!

rotten luck indeed, painful to see pictures of the damage.

hog, do u have pictures and specific details on how u touched up the scratch? i had bought my car with a touched-up scratch on the left driver's door and would be really appreciative on ways to blend it and look as close to perfect as possible.

That's weird, my first chip on my coupe is on the same spot, wonder what could've caused it?

Sorry to hear of your bad luck. In my experience, body shops aren't good at repairing this type of damage. They can change panels and respray whole panels at a time, but filling in chips and this type of job are not their forte.

I recommend contacting the best detailer in your area. My detailer does work like repairing key scratches so well, you'd never know they were there. The advantage the detailer has is he can fill in the chip, but also has mastery of the orbital, and can effectively blend the repaired section to the surrounding paint.

I would have the paint shop check it. I had the hood of my former E39 painted and it started chipping everywhere within weeks. The paint shop traced the problem to bad primer and they repainted the whole thing on their tab. That could have been caused by a bubble or some dirt or grease on the metal.
