E90 M3 European Delivery
Hello everyone,
I took delivery of my space gray E90 ZCP at the Welt on April 8th. Before I get into my experience I want to thank Philippe Kahn and Arturo Ransom at South Bay BMW. Working with them is a pleasure and I can’t wait to meet them when my vehicle arrives back in the states. I also want to thank my brother Keith for recording the delivery footage that I have watched numerous times. The videos were taken with a flip and the photos were taken with a point and shoot camera, we are by no means professional photographers. Please excuse any of my retarded comments. By the end of the day my brother and I were without a bed to sleep in for about 29 hours. Due to scheduling conflicts, my brother and I were forced to arrive in Munich at 7:50am for a 5:20pm delivery. After collecting our luggage we took the S8 and U3 to the Welt which cost about 20 Euro. The trains were extremely clean and smooth riding. I’ve seen many pictures of the Welt on the internet and literature but nothing beats seeing it in person. The architecture and design are truly amazing. After checking in our luggage, we were led upstairs to complete the delivery paperwork and schedule the day. As numerous people have mentioned the staff at the Welt treat you with top notch service from the moment you arrive. All important documents from insurance, roadside assistance to the closest petrol stations were discussed and signed. A credit card was issued to both of us allowing access to the museum, factory tour and of course the 10 and 15 Euro for the BMW shop and food respectively. After spending some time relaxing in the premium lounge (we hadn’t gotten much sleep on the plane) we took at look at the general displays before going on the factory tour at 11:30am. I won’t get into much detail regarding the displays because many people have posted pictures previously. I will mention that the 1m coupe on display was Alpine white and the current M3 was Melbourne red. Also it appears that the V8 M3 engine has replaced the V10 M5 engine at the engine display. Here are some pictures: At 11:30am we went on the factory tour. The first part consists of a video overview of BMW. Then we went to the factory across the street where the 3 series sedan and touring models are manufactured. You are not allowed to take pictures during the factory tour but I was thoroughly impressed. Due to space constraints, much effort is made to ensure that robots are optimally placed. You could spend hours watching the robots weld the frame body parts. Before entering the painting area, you are placed in a room with a number of 3 series hoods at various stages in the painting process. After hearing about the different steps it’s easy to imagine why no paint is as good as OEM. Painting the bodies is equally amazing. The robots actually open the doors and trunk to gain access to the door jams. They also purge the nozzles when switching colors. The engine shop was not running at full capacity but they were assembling, if my memory serves me correct, 4 cylinder turbo and 7 series Alpina engines. Unfortunately, the actually assembly line was such down so we did not get to see the actual assembly. After the tour and another stop in the premium lounge my brother and I took a quick trip the museum. I know we didn’t devote as much time to it as we should but at this point sleep deprivation was getting the best of us. After purchasing some items at the BMW shop and getting the free engraved Welt key chain we headed to the premium lounge. At this point is was approximately 4:30pm and in addition to the breakfast and snack items there were also white sausages. These were delicious and probably the best sausages I have ever eaten. About 20 minutes before delivery, I looked down at the delivery floor and saw my car peering through the glass elevator panes. At 5:20pm I met my delivery advisor, Bernhard Hausmaninger. For those who have had Bernhard, I don’t have to tell you how wonderful he is. Although the delivery is only supposed to last about 30 minutes, he spent on an order of 1 hour with me explaining almost every detail and on a Friday evening none the less. I really appreciate his time and effort; he even gave me some suggestions on some places to visit. At about 6:30pm it was time for my parade/victory lap and I Bernhard presented me with a nice book on the construction of the Welt. I’m not sure if others have also gotten this book but it made me feel special. After my parade/victory lap it was off to our hotel and my first drive. Unfortunately I only drove the car for two days before dropping off the car. Due to time constraints, my brother and I decided it would be more efficient to fly to Paris were we spent the rest of our time. Driving to the hotel: Driving to Landshut via the Autobahn: Petrol prices in Landshut: Drop off at Log In Out: Overall it was a great experience and definitely look forward to doing it again. I recommend European Delivery to anyone who's looking into purchasing a BMW. |

Car looks great, but you should have taken it to the Nurburgring that weekend. Paris is not going anywhere, and will always be there. You would be hard pressed to find a better experience with your new M3 in Europe. I was there on the 9th and 10th, and it was GREAT weather, and not too crowded. It would have been the perfect time to do some laps in your new car (I did 6-7 in a rental)....
