Trunk lid/rear of car - lots of spots (w/ PIC)

The rear of my car has a number of small black, grey and caramel-colored spots that do not come off during a normal wash. However, after using a bug/tar remover on a small test area, the spots came off pretty easily. But I'm hesitant to use a cleaner that's potentially too abrasive over a wider surface area. Any thoughts/advice??

I have the Akrapovic Evolution exhaust w/ 100 sports cats, but I'm not sure to what extent it's contributing to the discoloration.

The photo was taken after a wash.

Use a clay bar.

Use IronX from Cquartz, It works better than the clay bar for the rust spots and save time and paint swirls

Common issue for vehicles driven in snowy climates. The surface rust (which can appear even on plastic panels such as bumpers) is the oxidation of residual metallic compounds found in road salt and other snow melting agents deposited on roadways.

Nothing a little elbow grease, read clay bar or wax won't fix.

If you have train tracks nearby, the rust spots can also be from rail dust.

medium grade claybar should do the trick as others suggested.

I have these as well, and even after a full detail with clay, they are still there. Mine even look like they are under the paint... I have stock exhaust with cutouts. So I dont think its the exhaust...

But I would also like to know how to get rid of them.

Like I was saying, with IronX (previously iron cut), it just dissolves the rusts spots then use a microfiber to agitate, then rinse and wash.

It will remove small rusts spots that you're not even seeing. it will remove them much more in depth than a clay bar ever will.

Had the same thing, clay bar took them right off with minimal effort.
