Mini MightyVacs vs ShopVacs

Kinda of previously discussed, but has anyone owned both a 5HP+ ShopVac and one of those mini vacuums like:

I currently have a 3HP ShopVac from Lowes and I find it power lacking (especially for dog hair in the SUV). Can those mini powerful vacs really hold a candle to larger shop vacuums? I was thinking a 5-7 HP model, either from HomeDepot or Lowes.
