Garage Dust

i searched around for an answer to this but i couldnt find a solid one. my garage puts out a good amount of dust and settles onto my car. when i had my 5 series it was much easier to maintain since it was space gray and the dust really had no effect on the look of the car. now with jerez black after my detail a layer settled on and looks not as great anymore. anyone else have a solution to this or at least have suggestions has what to use to wipe down the car? thanks for the help!

Dry wiping with a California Duster or such will result in some scratching visible on black. As the previous poster noted, covering is the best solution. Does your garage have cracks that let in stuff from the outside - then seal those up and make sure the door has side and bottom gaskets.

Products like Zaino z6 + a microfibre cloth can do the trick as well as give a nice glossy shine !

ive thought about the car cover but this is almost a dd a car. i take it out more on the weekends but during the week its only for small errands and the gym. thats why i think the cover will be too time consuming. there are some small cracks but im sure that isnt the main reason why there is so much dust. i wiped down the car one day and then next morning when i came back in a new thick layer settled down over the whole thing again. ill give the zaino a shot thanks!

I usually use a quick detailer (only if the car has been washed) and a microfiber cloth to get rid of dust...

other than that i am lazy and wait till i wash the car again...

Car covers scratch paint more than a duster ever would. I wouldn't use either.

My garage is very similar to yours, if I leave my car there two days its covered in a layer of dust. I really have no idea how it gets so dusty. They have fans going all the time so maybe its just blowing around the dirt cars bring in.

I have used the California duster in the past. I know it might put some scratches on the finish but for me I think I can live with that as the dust is just insane. I don't know if a microfiber cloth with a quick detailer would be that much better, plus it would take much longer. I have a Jerez black M3 too... so I know your pain.

I have a motorcycle as well, for that I just throw a tarp over. It's got so much dust on it from being stationary for two months now because of winter... can't imagine what the bike would look like if I didn't cover it I can't wait to have my own garage again instead of a huge parking garage.

Either have your garage redone or live with it.

Wiping your car down with dust on it is not a good call.

And realistically as soon as you drive down your street the dust will be
back on the car. Ive had 3 black cars they are hard to keep clean.

Problem is the apt. complex won't do anything about it.. they could care less.

I think unfortunately its just a mater of living with a few micro scratches and just waxing and polishing to remove them. It's harder to see those few scratches I think then all that dust on the car.

How bad is the layer of dust, like really bad? or just annoys
you because you just finished washing her . I know
how you feel, If not bad just drive it for a few days and
then wash her again. I used to wash my black cars on
the regular.

Car covers are not the solution unless the car was just washed and your not moving it anywhere. Once driven, you can not put the cover back on otherwise your just asking for scratches.

It's pretty bad, noticeable after two or three days, a real good coating of dust. I really don't know where it comes from but it drives me nuts. Like I said I am glad I covered my bike for the winter otherwise it would be brown by spring.

I've found the California duster works well, I haven't noticed any major scratching from it, but it is dry and I am sure it does some micro scratching.. but for me I can live with that vs the dust. Simple waxing fixes all those scratches and you can barely see them unless you get up close. The dust on the other hand you can see from 10-15 feet away. So its a trade off.

I used to live in a condo building years ago. The guy who had the spot a few down had a 911 that he always covered. He bought a cover for a much larger car so he could put it on or take it off very quickly. We had storage units at our spaces so he just left it in there when he left.

This. Especially with a black car this will be evident.

Your only option is to reduce whatever the source of the dust is with better sealing, etc. or just deal with it between washes.

i wil!i can live with wiping it down every so often to make it look good for these sunny socal days. it said it reduces dust up to 60% so well see how that goes

I know how you feel, my office is located in an industrial
area so by the end of the day there is a nice layer of
dust on my car from all the trucks going by on the street.
I just wash the car 1nce a week.

I think the best thing to do is get your car detailed at a reputable place or yourself if you have experience detailing, and wash your car every week or so b/c as others said, once you drive around once, especially on a black car, you'll get dust/dirt on the car and if you keep using a quick detail spray, eventually too much dust/dirt will build up or you may not use enough QD one one occasion, and possibly create holograms on your car's paint from the towel.

CA Duster for me and my black M5, don't notice the dust on the Silverstone 3. Scratching has not been a problem (but this could be dependent on the type of dust, mine is relatively light.)

the zaino works really well and it actually does reduce the dust pretty well. thats what im going to live with for now
