aero bumper on M Coupe

okay first off, please dont give me the "omg dont put that on your M, that will take away from the authenticity blah blah blah.." i truly believe to each his own, and with my deployment currently in afghanistan, i know that when i return i want to have my M have its own uniqueness.

understanding that the aerodynamics bumper was never officially offered for the M Coupe/Roaster, and knowing that its not a direct plug & play, i'm seeking the help of other aero bumper swaps, and people who could offer insight.

im basically looking to complete the aerodynamics front bumper and side sills. having a 05/2006 build M Coupe, i would like to retain the headlight washer feature, but hopefully not have the front reflectors integrated. Also, I will modify the foglight openings to act as a brake duct from the M bumper.

based off realOEM.com, a E85 Z4 3.0si Aerodynamics package as my guide:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...29&hg=51&fg=95

I figure I would need (or like) to order the following components.

-Front bumper trim with all required screws and mounting hardware
-Front bumper grills
-Front bumper tow hook cover
-Front bumper undertray and hardware
-New front wheelwells lining
-Aero bumper side sills and hardware (which has been done on Z4M's)

Gathering from the realOEM.com chart, I'm just hoping I can get some help with identifying all necessary part numbers needed. Any prior Aero Bumper owners, please chime in.

Thanks in advance.

Go for, I'm doing the same thing. It should fit fine with some small adjust on the under tray, nothing that could not be handle. I'm a fan of that bumper as well and I can't wait until I'm done.

No need for wheelwells yours will do just fine as well and the brake ducts will fit just some cuts on the front.

excellent. ill just take out my brake ducts in the meantime until i can come up with some sort of modification to work..

glad to know the undertray and wheel linings will fit.. small adjustments or modification to existing trays or lining shouldnt be an issue.

okay, based off this link to realOEM.com here are the parts listed i think i'll need for the front bumper and side sills.

NO. DESCRIPTION QTY PART NUMBER
02 PRIMED FRONT APRON (W/ HEADLIGHT WASHERS) 1 51110149439
03 DOOR SILL COVER, PRIMED RIGHT 1 51710150780
03 DOOR SILL COVER, PRIMED LEFT 1 51710150781
06 BODY NUT 3 07129904220
07 FILLISTER HEAD SELF-TAPPING SCREW 3 07119904220
09 CLIP 14 51717055847
10 EXPANDING RIVET 16 51118174185
11 BODY NUT 2 07129904150
12 GASKET LEFT 2 51717125691
12 GASKET RIGHT 2 51717125692
14 GRID, CENTER 1 51130151008
15 GRID LATERAL LEFT 1 51130151050
15 GRID LATERAL RIGHT 1 51130151051
19 BODY NUT 8 07129901646
20 FILLISTER HEAD SELF TAPPING SCREW 8 07119901168
21 FLAP, TOWING EYE, PRIMED 1 51117056922

Again, I believe this to be for builds 01/2006 on, so I would assume this to fit my 06. Again, this should have the headlight washer, and I will modify the foglight opening to act as a brake duct in some way.

If any aero bumper owners can provide input on my parts lists, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

I ordered the entire Aero kit for my '04 The only major difference I can think of for pre/post facelift and the kit in general is the fog lights and rear apron. The kit didn't even come with a cover for the tow hook, I had to reuse the one I had.

The grills are the same on all Z4 models

Talking

I am as much as excited to see this Aero Kit on his MCoupe. The bumper & side skirts have already arrived, just waiting for a few small parts. Once everything is in, I will be taking his car to the shop for the retrofit.

As my son has said, the retrofit should be completed before the end of this month. As soon as it is done, I will take a few pics and post them, including a few shots next to dad's car , for a visual comparo.

I'm wondering whether the foglight openings will do for the brake vents. The vents are large and have pretty beefy scoops on the M bumper, and the brakes still seem to get rather hot. Any thoughts on this?

Same, but I think the fogs more "direct" position at the front of the bumper will more air to pass through from sheer speed. Maybe an air splitter could be mounted inside to divide the flow around to the brakes?

^No, You should have less air coming in because of the design, that is the reason I will be using other ways to direct extra air to the brakes as well from the lower vents.

'stock' the vents on the outside of the aero bumper are actually covered, while the center portion is a plastic mesh vent. Not that it wouldn't be easy to do something else with it.

edit: parts 15 in the picture

You'll be one of the first as I'm sure we'll be over there to work on the M. Remember, work first then beer.

Yes I know, the m3 people have the same problem but you can research what they did and that is kind what I'm going for, anyways I will try to find something and post here later.

I went to see the car yesterday for my son, and it looks very nice, not too mention it is very unique sort of like a special edition model

The overall appearance, especially on a black coupe is most definitive and impressive, and the visual lines flow with the car. The Aero Bumper on the M Coupe does not look aftermarket or tacky at all (e.g. taken lines from other BMW models, such as E46 or E90, etc.). It does not look like an expensive name-brand add-on either, it's OEM, and the fitment is perfect. and in my opinion it still maintains the heritage of still being a pure M, regardless. My taking & posting pictures will be an understatement and an injustice. I have no photo skills either...

I will be picking up the car and bringing it home on Monday, along with other goodies that I have been instructed to pick up.
