50i Performance Mods???

Does anyonw know if there are any performance mods for the 50i engine? What is BMW's "N#" for this motor? I hear talk about the N54, N55, etc motors but not sure which one they are relating to. Are there any downpipe bolt-on's? computer tuning? performance exhaust? Do I have to worry about back pressure/scavenging if i custom build a Magnaflow setup? Does the computer act funny if anything like that is changed? thanks in advance

The engine code is n63. It hasn't been around long enough in the 5 or x5 to have a strong tuner support base yet, but its growing by the day. I would expect shiv to have a tune in 12-18 mos.

Free breathing helps the BMW turbo engine on both intake and exhaust. I ran a DCI on my n54 e90 with great success, in addition to the proceed. Better dp's and exhaust systems added further to the hp gains. The BMW turbos are managed by a waste gate system, and it improves with a free flowing exhaust.

Dinan's mod for the same motor in the X6 is shipping now (495hp, 573lb-ft). I believe they've said it will be out for the X5's motor yet this year.

Dinan has been shown to be horribly over-priced and they way under-deliver.

I have no experience with them one way or another. I would spend the extra money for an upgrade that doesn't circumvent the safety checks in the system and adds a complementary warranty though.

If you want to keep the warranty and have 500hp Dinan is the route to go. They have the X5 50i package on their new web site now. I have a Dinan tune and like it as well as their service which has been great so far.
With any other tune you take your chances ... I wouldn't do that.
