gp thunder bulbs for halo's on the x5 and for light question

I really dont like the yellow... am I correct in understanding that the GP thunders are regular bulbs that throw the light down plastic tube that creates the halo?

Or are they LEDs?

Are they easy to install?

Any model in particular to get? Any reccomended site?

How about fog lights... those are horribly yellowish as well..would like to match them to white halos....

Thanks in advance guys.

I just did them - tried many other things, LED's etc and these are by the far the best bang for the buck, they have basically the same intensity as the OEM halo's, but are just white - I did 8500k which is a little more blue than the 7500k and look just like the HID headlights. Basically a great mod for $15 shipped off ebay (just make sure you get the improved version 2 GP Thunders). On my 335 I spent a lot more money for LED bulbs and they don't look as good at $100.

This is just a bulb replacement - replaced the normal H8 with a whiter H8 bulb of the same wattage - they do sell higher wattage bulbs, but would stick to the 35W standard wattage GP Thunders as the higher wattage may melt things.

In my book the only things that look better are LUX, OSS or an HID setup, all of which are $150 up to $500 to do and either require sending out your headlights or installing wiring outside the headlight assembly and wiring into other sources to run ballasts etc. All too much money just for lights in my book (although OSS is sick!). If you just want it to look like stock but color wise be white and match the Xenon's, just do this for short money!

GP Thunders are a hyperwhite replacement for the standard halogen bulbs. They are blue coated like most replacement hyperwhite bulbs to provide a more white output.

Since they are still filament based, they do have a tint of yellow. I recommend an LED upgrade like the WeissLicht LED Angel Eyes if you are after a pure white color.

That is what I did - definitely worth the money over stock, can't bring myself to spend $100's on making the light more white!

Check this link out...I "think" this is what we want to closely color match our halo's to the Xenon headlights? Anyone who has changed these, please confirm....They are on sale now too :-)

Installed!

Before:

After:

Def major improvement. Hard to tell in day but it's def white and at night it will be awesome.

-------------------

Notes on install

These are the caps you twist off to get to the bulbs....self explanatory.

These are the H8 bulbs. Below is the picture how to remove them. The picture is taken from the eyes of the engine. If your standing infront of the car, twist left (counter clockwise) and the bulb will be released (remember exact position because that's how you need to reinsert it). Then be careful not to touch the bulb. There are two clips on the side of the wiring harness that you need to pop off. Then take old bulb off and put new one on. This was a hard part because the wire is not long so you have to work carefully not to touch new bulb while attaching to harness. Then put bulb back in (in the last position it was when taken out) and twist to the right (clockwise) to lock back in.

The outer ring barely looks lit just because of the angle. This is extremely hard to photograph. All i can say is it looks great at night. And just better than what it was during the day. For $16 it may be the most cost efficient mod i have bought. Would do this 100 times over.

DO IT!

You have to do the 35w. Which is the H8
