Silly quetion about oil change

Hi guys, I would like to do an after break-in oil change, currently my car has 4200Km. My silly question is, do I need to reset anything as far the computer oil change indicator goes? Can I just change the oil and not worry about resetting anything? I already checked the DIY video and it looks very simple. Thanks for the video.

First, I don't think you can easily reset the dash count-down.

Second, why would you want to as that would only lenthen the time/mileage until your next free change? Just make sure you use a BMW approved full synthetic.
(I'm assuming that you guys get the "free" covered maintenance in the Great White North as we do in the US.)

Tom
So after the free maintenance is gone we cannot reset the oil change counter ourselves?

The maintenance counter is resettable. There is some combination of things you have to do to make it work. The procedures are floating around the ether though.

As for oil changes during the maintenance warranty, you should not reset the counters. This will only limit the number of free services you receive.

Bit of an off topic side question for this. When the dealer or anyone really does an oil n filter change on the 135i, do they do anything more than pour oil in the spout under the hood or do they need to mess with more than that? I ask cuz I have my JB+ installed and would rather not be bothered to take it out just for this. I still have my stock intake and its set pretty far down there behind my aftermarket chargepipe, really can only tell its there if you're deliberately looking down in there. Just wondering if the BMW techs spend more time than just to pour new oil in under the hood for an oil change, or is most of the time spend under the car draining and replacing the filter?

If it was a warranty issue, I would remove it, but just an oil change?

OP, you do not need to reset anything - as your car is still new and under BMW's free care. Just change your oil and only USE a BMW LL-1 oil and factory filter.

Resetting the service lights is easy. I made a DIY. You can reset every light yourself once your car is out of BMW's care. No special tools required either.
