Google Maps
Anybody in here having problems with sending google maps to your 2011 X5? I get a message saying it was sent successfully but my vehicle shows no message. I've call BMW Assist and they have reset my email account and still nothing. Now BMW Assist is saying they will escalate the status and look into it.
Thanks for any info from anybody who has this problems. |

I started having trouble 2 weeks ago - sent 4 times and never received the messages, though I haven't called it in yet....I was wondering if it was setup as a trial period or something....?

I did some more research yesterday and came across a post about pop3 email address with problems using it. I then called BMW Assist this morning to change my email address from comcast to gmail account and send another message to my vehicle. Checked my vehicle and it shows up. Therefore, try changing the email address if somebody wants to give it a try.

Okay it looks like I know very little, close to nothing about this. Can someone explain to me from Step 1 how I go about sending addresses to my GPS through my iphone? Thanks in advance.

Did you register with BMW assist yet? If so, then:
1) maps.google.com 2) enter the address 3) click on "More" then "Send" 4) click "Car", select Make: "BMW" 5) where it says "BMW assist account name" enter the email you gave to BMW assist 6) click send 7) Go to your car, you will find the address under messages

you use google maps which sends the address to the nav, not your iphone. Of course, you can use your iPhone, PC, whatever to access google maps, but there is no direct address link from your phone to the nav.

I can't get it to work on my iphone either. The only option I can think of is to revert to classic before you get to google maps on your iphone. So you would open google.com and then click "classic" at the bottom before searching your address. Send option is right next to print option without having to click "more" and all that.

Right. That's because you're using google mobile. There is also no option on iPhone to revert to google classic when you're already in google maps. So go to google.com, scroll down, revert to classic, and then begin your address search. Send option and google interface will be as described above.

I did this in google classic just like you suggested. And you're right English isn't my first language, but this has nothing to do with not being able to get this to work. I have tried searching an address in classic mode and have downloaded the google app but once I search an address to a restaurant or even my home address there is no "SEND" option, whatsoever. My predicament lies there. I am able to send an address to the NAV just fine using a desktop. Thanks for your help chiplee.

I was able to trick my iPhone into opening in classic view by copying the address link and pasting it into a new browser, but this only worked once. It then went back to opening the application. I want this to work as well so I'll continue looking into it. Sorry to snap at you there. |

Exactly. I can now get maps.google.com to load without redirection, but I find it to be essentially unusable - way too slow, doesn't render correctly, almost impossible to get clicks to respond to the correct link, when I try to zoom to to click on the "send" link everything redraws and renders improperly, etc. A nightmare to use on a web browser with such limited functionality as the iPhone's Safari. Its not worth the frustration or time it would take to send an address. Better off sticking with the desktop way because that works very well. We'll have to work until apple decides to do some work on the way google maps works since they've never really updated it. Kind of a bummer (since I really dislike the BMW GPS and it's capabilities of finding addresses unless you have the full zip) but I'll get over it
