Question How to warm up X5 E70 3.0d when starting?

It is getting colder and it is my first year of using my X5 E70 3.0d year 2007.

When the days are warm and the car is warm it starts instantly. Almost the moment you press start.

But in days when there is colder and the car is outside for whole night. In the morning when I start it it takes longer time to start. 2 or 3 times more spinning of ignition.

How can I warm my diesel up. I have tired by not pressing the brake and pressing start so it turns every lights on the console up but it does not start and then it 10 seconds i press the brake and start again, but it is the same.

Is there anything else I can do? Or do I need to go to service?

How to correctly start up an engine?

When I put inside the key and pres start it starts immediately, I am a little concern since it is an diesel shouldn't it warm up the spark plugs and then start??

In colder days it needs longer to start??

What can I do how can I warm it up???

let me know??

I've only had my diesel for about a month, and the temps haven't been low enough to cause any problems. I don't know if the X5 has a "block heater", which gives you an electrical plug that you connect to your house/garage/etc. to warm the core over night. My 1998 Dodge Ram Cummins had one, so on really cold nights (really cold being relative, especially in Seattle), I'd plug it in.

Not sure what else you can do.

I added the block heater to mine but haven't had cold enough weather to check it out. I park indoors at home and at work though.

Is it an OEM block heater, or did you adapt something?

1. diesel engines do not have "spark plugs". Maybe you meant to say
"glow plug".
2. for cold weather starting procedure, suggest you consult Owner's manual. There should only be a minor delay as the glow plug heats.

Yes I meant "glow plug" I am not an English speaking person so I did not pronounce it right sorry.

I have looked in owner manual and it does not say anything about how to start a cold engine I am not talking about -20 celsius.

I am taking about 10 celsiuc and that in the morning it takes longer to start then ordenary.

Thank you for help

Why not take your car back to your service dealer and ask them to check
your cold start ? There should be no delay in starting a diesel when the temp = +10C.

Sorry, I just told the dealership and they installed it. Every car gets one up here so it's kind of standard.

Oh, 10C? That's a bad summer's morning around here. I have started below that without any trouble or delay. You might want to get that checked out.
