Unhappy Help Computer problem with my X5

Hi everyone,I am so in trouble with my X5.I was hoping someone could tell me what is going on.My car has gone into fail safe transmission mode, also is showing ABS and Traction control lights active.Mechanics think it could be a computer. To fix it I have to take it to Townsville BMW, which is more than 300 klms away,Expensive Tow.I have been quoted at least 2500.00 for a new computer and 6 or more hours to reprogram everything at 136.00 per hour.If thats all that they can find.Does any one know what I can do other than this???
Please help!!!!!
Thanks.
Jodie.

Sorry to hear about this. Sadly, the X5 is not known for reliability. I've known a couple people that have had to replace ECU's, TCM's, etc.

I've had the exact same problem on my X5 with the additional message "FAULTY ALTERNATOR". I had it towed to the dealership and they decided it was indeed the alternator. It got replaced for free under warranty.

I've seen similar errors with a battery problem. But it could be an alternator causing the battery problem. Either is a less expensive fix than the computer.
