2011 ZCP LMB sedan... pics

Finally got around to taking pics... took delivery 3 weeks ago, but just got the wheels back from the powder coaters on a week ago. I've decided to dump the CF kidney grills and just ordered some gloss black. I put them on first and they looked great, but after adding the splitters, the CF grills didn't seem to work as well. And the reflectors... I know... don't say it.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to add the front plate. Where I live you cannot get away without, unless you want to get pulled over every 3 weeks (I see people pulled over in front of the house all the time, and they are always sans front plate... I live right near LAX, around the corner from a red light cam).

I'll do a writeup on my thoughts on coming from an e46 ZCP, for those interested, but I'll wait til after break in (I go in this week for the 1200 service).

Anyway, here are the specs...

2011 LeMans Blue sedan
ZCP
Black leather, carbon look trim
DCT
Technology Package
Premium Package
Park Distance Control
iPod and USB adapter
Fold down rear seats
Alarm System
Changed out the Grills, Gills, and added the Splitters, and Powder coated the wheels.

Thanks.

+1

any concerns over durability of finish and strength of the wheel after powdercoat?

It was done by LA Wheel and Tire. The actual PC price was $110 per wheel, plus mounting/balancing, and maybe a minimal charge for loaners (can't recall offhand if I was charged for them or not). I'm local, so I was able to come in and swapped in the loaner wheels, then I was able to come back after a week and they swapped again. They seem to be a quality outfit, and the work was beautiful.

Don't really have any concerns over the durability of the finish. It looks like a high quality job, I'm sure as good as any wheel bought that way from the start. As far as strength, I gave it some thought, but couldn't find any horror stories online, so decided to go for it anyway. The ZCP wheels are spun cast (supposedly stronger than standard cast wheels). I've been riding on ZCP wheels for 5.5 years without issue, and have hit a few brain-jarring bumps in the road, no issues at all. The e90 suspension and chassis is a bit firmer than my '05 e46 (I guess its softened with age)... so hopefully that combined with the PC wheels won't cause any issues should I hit a particularly nasty bump or pothole. Time will tell...

About the license plate, I am wondering putting the plate inside, on the dashboard is illegal in LA?

you are almost my twin except ILB(diff rims too)

I would go the tow hook license plate mount. Then you can always go back or when you sell the car then the new owner has no holes. Also looks better off to the side.

Got the 1200 mile service done today. I thought the front ride height looked wrong (too big a gap between the front fenders/tires), and the car seemed to really not like bumps at speed (railroad tracks were particularly harsh), so I mentioned this to the SA. Well, sure enough, they found that the front shipping spacers had been left in. oops.

Well, looks better now, and I haven't had a chance to test the suspension yet, I'm sure it'll ride nicer (and handle better) over bumps now. Now I'm worried less about the wheels and more about damaging the splitters. It'll be a royal PITA if I crush one or both of those on a parking block.

Well my twin... that is where we have a difference of opinion. I think the side license mount looks tacky (IMHO). Its fine for a temp mount, like getting a sign-off after getting a ticket, but for a permanent mount?.. I'm afraid I don't like it at all. So as much as I don't like the idea of drilling the bumper, for me holes it is... at least they are hidden under the plate.

Congrats, whaleboy,

Looks friggin awesome. Got any fresh pics now that the shipping spacers are out? Judging by the original photos, the orange peel with Le Mans Blue metallic isn't so terrible, correct?

Thanks, once my warranty on '08 is coming close to an end I think I'm going to go with an AW '12 and get ZCP and was wondering how the powdercoated rims would look. Definitely going to do it now - thanks!
