black dots on AW
for the guys with AW, how do you get rid of (and prevent) those tiny little black dots from appearing??? they are mostly distributed behind the wheel arches and on the rear bumper/boot area.
im quite the novice when it comes to detailing cars and i dont expect my car to be pristine, but these little black dots are driving me crazy, theres heaps of them! and they obviously dont come off in a normal wash. any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

If they are road tar, then I remove mine with petrol (gas as you know it). It's a solvent, so it easily removes tar. I always do a wash straight after.

prepsols pretty strong stuff, used for cleaning all dust, oil and silicones off prior to painting. It will certainly get the tar off, but it will take your polish and wax as well.
I haven't used one yet, but maybe the clay bar would be targeted towards this. my 2 c spent.

i use a product called Bug Off, i know they are not bugs but the acid in it works really well. try windex or even vinegar.
those black dots drive me nuts, i was told white cars were easier to keep clean, thats horse crap, next car will be metalic silver again, nothing shows up on that |

There are specific tar remover on the market. Check them out!
I use AutoGlym Tar remover. Put them on, wait a few minutes and gently get rid of them.

P21s Autowash, may need to Clay afterwards. Probably need to rewax unfortunately. I am sure I have to take the clay out last time to get rid of those specs on the 125i.

Either bug and tar remover or clay bar. Both easy to do but make sure you clean the area first so as not to have any loose dirt particles floating around which will scratch the paint when you are wiping with bug/tar remover or with clay bar. You will definately need to apply wax afterwards.

If you can feel a slight bump with your fingernail, you'll need to use a clay bar on the area. It's just tiny particles that have embedded themselves into the paint and the clay bar will pick them up and make everything nice and smooth again. (as x5mad said, wax afterward)
Then again, it could just be road oils and a bug/tar remover will do it.

Not necessarily but I would try bug off and then clay bar it just to minimize what comes off with the clay. You can get a pretty good clay bar kit made by Turtlewax Ice (I assume they make it in AU also). They have good instructions, easy to follow.

just tried the autoglym intensive tar remover alone. unfortunately no luck! the black dots wouldn't budge a bit. guess i'll have to try and clay it when i have some more time. How long does it usually take to clay a whole car?

How long did you leave the thing? Haha.
Clay may not work either if it is that stuck. Leave the tar remover longer and use your nail. Then clay and polish.
