BMW Search?

Has anybody gotten this feature to work on the 09 idrive? Every time I try it the message I get says the system is down and to try again later. It is supposed to connect to the internet to search local maps and places.

I got the same message until I paid for the convenience plan. Now it works fine.

It doesn't have the richest functionality, but people are always impressed by the stock indexes and I like being able to find the cheapest gas.

Are you paying for it?

The convenience plan is $199 a year. I like it because it allows me to search Google for POI's not in the nav system.

I didn't realize it was part of the convenience plan. Is it worth the two hundred bucks a year? I would like to be able to use the google search instead of the nav search. Any other useful benefits?

Last month BMW added weather forecasts, stocks updates and gas station prices real-time displays for your area to the Convenience Plan.

Plus you can email google map addresses to your car and you get the concierge service--which is handier than BMW search I think.

Now if I could just figure out what the user name and password options are for.

The ability to send Google maps from you computer does not require the convenience plan.

I asked my local dealer about the user name and password that appear in the options, and the answer was that this feature is not enabled.

When I signed up for the plan, the rep told me that if I changed my mind on the convenience plan, then they would refund the difference. No harm in trying it out. Plus it was kind of cool signing up from my car via the SOS button.

Ah, it didn't work until I activated my account ...which I did at the same time I signed up for the convenience plan (also over BMW Assist).

I have been using the send from google maps. It is a nice feature but only works about one out of three times. It doesn't seem to be a signal issue because I am usually parked in one of two spots.

I signed up for the convience plan today so I am looking forward to that being activated.

I haven't had any problems with sending Google maps, but have had problems when using the in car Google search feature. Sometimes it won't be able to figure out a route when you transfer it to the nav system.

It's not a great user experience. They have a long way to go. If you have an iPhone, you really don't need the service.

Main reason for getting BMW Search is the ability to find business addresses through the NAV system.

What would be great is an iPhone app or an update to Google Maps that would let you send POI's to your car from your phone just like when you do it from a computer.

So I can't get the BMW search to work after signing up for the convenience plan. It has been at the dealership for two days and they seem pretty clueless. The concierge people say it should be working and must be a hardware or software problem with the car.
On a positive note, my car should feel great after driving the 328xi loaner around for a couple of days.

It took mine 5 days before it worked. (shut off real fast once I canceled though)

Tomorrow will be four days without my car. This 328xi is starting to get pretty old. It would be better if it was a stick.

The service department is waiting to hear back from the techs in NJ. I guess the same module controls the blue tooth which has been working fine. I am about ready to say f it and get my concierge subscription money back from BMW.

So I picked my car up because they were still waiting to hear back from the people in New Jersey. They could not figure out why the search function will not work after having the car for a week. It is part of the blue tooth module which is working fine.

To my horror and surprise, the dealership had put on over 200 miles since when I dropped it off. They had reset the computer and the trip odometer even though the CIC had not been reset. The gas had been filled to about where it was. Next time I will take a picture of the odometer when I drop it off.
