3G snap-in adapter
I have smartphone integration [6NF] and got the iPhone 3G snap-in adapter.
The part number for the adapter is: 84 21 2 151 043 I have the original iPhone but got the 3G adapter because I was planning to upgrade. But I noticed that my current phone works just fine. I seem to have all the phone/music/address book functionality even though it's not a 3G phone. So I guess I don't need to upgrade the phone. Or is there something I'm missing???? |

my guess is its backwards compatible... because if you think about it, the 3G phone has all of the features of the old one ..Plus..

yeah that would make sense.
For some reason, I thought there was an adapter specifically for the 2G iphone. That's why I wasn't expecting my 2G phone to work with the 3G adapter. But I'm glad it does. |

Word of warning.....i can not use my Iphone 3G w/ the BMW ipod Y-cable. Anytime I plug my Iphone into it I get the message that "this device is not compatable. would you like to turn on airplane mode?"
I went to my dealership a couple of months ago, but evidently I was the first person to mention this to BMW.....

I get the same message... not a problem, just ignore it.
The manual for the 3G adapter has a warning that the message will come up and say to either ignore it or cancel. But the phone works fine. |

Yep...even with the new cradle, the iPhone gives the same compatibility warning, and then works fine. The only gain the cradle and smartphone integration package gives you over the plugging it into the iPod connector is a way to hold the phone and increased reception by hooking up to the car's antennas. The extra reception doesn't seem to really be there, at least from my testing.
