TPMS false alarm...has this happened to anyone else?
i was out of town and didn't drive my One for a week. when i started it up this weekend the TPMS (_!_) came on. i figured that maybe air had leaked out over a week, so i aired it up...but even after overinflating (39-42 psi) the tires the warning light would not go out
so i took it to the dealer and they checked the whole thing out, no issues or punctures or anything. so they reset the light and here the car sits, chilling back home. we'll see if this happens ever again. has this happened to anyone else? did the light ever mysteriously come back on? |

by 'resetting' do you guys mean the reset function on the OBC (accessed thru the control stalk)? because i did that and it refused to reset it...it only said "Tire Low!". is there another/better way of resetting it yourself?
the mechanic was able to reset it completely...but i would prefer not to have to take it to him every time... |

You need to click on it and hold for 3 sec when you see the 'Tire Low!'. I've to spend a trip to dealer and learn it .

It's just not BMW's TPMS but almost all seem to do this from time to time. I don't think it's perfected technology. |

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma had many TPMS faults/failures not just low tires warnings. In fact I filed for lemon law and am driving a 2006 Tacoma due to the fact that the dealer could not fix the system after six visits for the same issue. I am not a big fan of TPMS. On my Tacoma if I wanted sensors in my winter wheel/tires I would have to buy a second set of sensors and when I want to put the wheel/tires on I have to pay Toyota $75 to reprogram the sensors each time I do the wheel/tire swap. So I put the sensors in a PVC tube and pressurized the tube, put the tube under my back seat storage.
I just fail to understand why using the ABS to sense a low tire was not good enough for the NTSB. Less hardware, using existing technology on the car. Has anyone tried the PVC tube for the sensors on the 135i?

This issue is somewhat known (at least on the E9x). On some cars, these will go off once in a while. If it happens often you can take it to the dealer and have them fix it.

well, i learned something new. thanks guys. regarding cyberbro's comment, my wife has an 08 Touareg with aftermarket 22's on it...she went over a pothole and now her TPMS sensor for the right rear wheel is now not responding...i guess it could have been dislodged in the impact.
so i think there's some truth in his comment. what a pain in the ass technology...i've never had a flat tire that i wasn't able to immediately diagnose by looking at the car or noticing that it drives differently...but then again i've never had a car with RFT's either. |

My sensor popup on the LCD and when I checkd all 4 tires they were low by about 4lbs. Filled them up to the correct PSI and the light went away. Never had to reset anything

That said, my TPMS warning popped up this morning. I'm going to go check the pressures in a bit. I'm wondering if it's due to the fact that the TPMS was initialized in 90+ degree weather, and this morning we're at around 50 degrees. I'll know for sure in an hour or so. I assume that if all four wheels are down by roughly the same amount, it's safe to assume the drop in pressure is due to temperature. I'll just fill the tires back up to the appropriate level (in the morning, preferably) and reset TPMS. |
