Cell phone battery drain
Is it just my imagination or does using the bluetooth in the car drain the battery on a cell phone? I have only had the car for 2 week but I have noticed my cell needs to be charged every day now (of course I have been in my car pretty much non-stop).
Could it be related to the the way the bluetooth works in the car? Or maybe it has to do with roaming looking for a cell signal a I travel all over the place?

I think it depends on each phone's BT implementation, but my experience with my RAZR is that turning on BT drastically reduces battery life by a factor of about 4. I know nothing about the specifics of BT, but I would guess that it has to turn the BT antenna on, as well as poll for other BT devices in range.
When the phone is in the car for extended periods of time, actively communicating with the car, the battery gets drained even quicker. |

When you enable BT on a cell phone, the device has to constantly power an RF transceiver which is a big power consumer. As a result it drains the battery much faster. It has nothing to do with the car...

I have a new Samsung cell and the bluetoth runs the battery down fast. My wife has the same phone and she doesn't use the bluetooth and I seem to charge my phone 2 or 3 times to her one charge. Having said that...I sure like the handsfree operation of my bluetooth!

all bluetooth devices drain the phone's battery faster than simple standby mode. That is why there is a cell phone adapter that goes in the center console for the phone.
Check here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6010 Takes 5-10 minutes to install, extremely easy. |

I found a reference on the BMW site that speaks to cell phone battery drain when using bluetooth. I showed that to my CA and he just smiled and threw in a free cell phone charger.
