New iPod adapter problem

Sorry if a repost...tried searching.

Anyway, the volume from my iPhone seems to go up and down randomly (like from I can barely hear it, adjust it, and it blasts my ears off the next second...or the reverse). This problem seems particularly pronounced with podcasts, and around town driving (lots of stop and go, shifting gears). Any remote diagnoses??

I've used my iPod quite a bit, and my iPhone some and have not had this problem. Do you maybe have adaptive volume turned on on the radio (the feature where it changes volume to accommodate the noise of the engine)? I think our cars have that as an option, but I hate it in rentals, so I haven't looked to see if I could turn it on.

Sounds like the adaptive volume thing. There was a thread about it. What I seem to remember is that it's always on, but you can turn it down a bit.

Question for you... Is your cellphone next to your ipod? Mine does the same thing if my cellphone is really close to the ipod.

It's not always on. It was never on in my car. If it was, I'd have figured out how to turn if off immediately.

I tried playing with the speed adaptive volume settings. It had been on the second to lowest setting. I tried adjusting to both the highest and lowest setting....no change. I'm not aware of any way to completely shut the feature off. If anyone knows how, please let me know. Do you think it might just be a loose connection? This wasn't happening the 1st week I had the car, though.:iono:

play with the aux in and usb connectors, see if the sound cuts in and out when you play with the y-cable. you may have a bad y-cable.
