I need some guidance. I am looking for recommendations for shop repair manuals that provide step-by-step instructions.

Recommend you stick with the factory manuals, nothing else can compare.

Jump on Ebay and search for: " bmw repair service workshop manual tis "

There a quite a few sellers up there, pick one that covers all models. Will cost you around 10 dollars and they will send you a link to download gigabytes of the factory manuals that BMW techs use, everything you can possibly need.
