Wireless Charger

Are you guys/gals happy with your wireless chargers?

I notice mine takes forever to fully charge my iPhone. Last weekend, I went for a very long drive ~3 hours, I had about 20% of battery before putting the phone on the wireless charger. At the end of the trip the phone was at 70%!

Is this normal and that's all the wireless charger can do? Thanks

It’s not great, No. If I need more charge quickly, as opposed to just keeping the phone topped up, I connect it to the USB socket in the armrest and it charges up much more quickly.

It's outdated but not by much. If I recall it's 5W/1A which is going to be slower compared to USB and newer wireless charging tech. Newer tech supports up to 15W but the phones are still limited to 7.5W for iPhone and 10W for Android I recall. May have changed since. Still quicker than what exists in our cars. The new LCI and the newer BMWs have better wireless charging capabilities.

For 2 hours you should have been around 40% - 50% based on studies I've seen.

Keep in mind that having a case on your phone slows down the charging speeds. It's always best to have direct contact with the phone.

Study in the wireless charging. They claim 4% / 10 minutes.

If you have the opportunity, upgrade to a 29W+ with USB-C to lightning. It's amazing and the fastest way to charge iPhone now. 50% faster. That's all I use now.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. You mentioned an upgrade to a 29W, you there is a way to upgrade the wireless charger in the car to 29W or is this an external charger?

External ... I'm m my it aware of any way to upgrade ours.

There are aftermarket options. I don't know the specs of them. Here is an example

This site shows a 10W Charger which is good.
