Autotecknic $395 VS M Performance Mirror Caps $850
Hi All,
Would be helpful if someone can share their opinion/experience... Im looking to purchase Carbon Mirror Caps for my F82 M4. After looking around specifically for a more premium product, the 2 i've found to be best are the Autotecknic Carbon and of course the OEM M perf ones. However they are priced dramatically different. AutoTecknic at $395 for the pair VS. $850 for M Performance. I don't like to cheapen out on carbon parts especially when it comes to fitment and quality. Has anyone owned both ? Is it a large difference between the two? |

I agree with this, heard the best aftermarket ones don’t fit like OEM

I have seen them as low as 688 a set from bmw dealers there on Ebay. Check every week. It changes all the time. I almost picked up a set but I have mineral grey and carbon is washed out in this color. I prefer body colored.

Trust me when I say this, you want the OEM mirror caps. I've been down this road too many times, I've tried Autotecknic and many other brands, and none of them fit right like the OEM ones do. I couldn't even get the Autotecknic ones on completely that's how bad the fitment was. Save yourself the headache, and do it right the first time by buying OEM. I got mine for around $400 used in the marketplace.

In general I've had better fitment on no name carbon brands over autotecknic which is priced right in-between these no name brands and OEM. Even a simple part like their color matched indicators had a terrible fit.

i have their diffuser it fits good.
800 for mirror caps is a bit ridiculous. might be better to just wrap them

Covers instead of caps
I went with covers and I am quite pleased, given the cost of actual covers and the risk of clip or mirror damage to install. Cost $118 shipped from Extreme Power House. They are real carbon fiber molds.

Years and years of installing carbon fiber lips, diffusers, mirror caps etc. Nothing will ever fit like OEM, the closest is maybe the Akrapovic diffuser and the Vorsteiner stuff on BMW's. 1016 does good stuff as well. If your even slightly worried about fitment issues I would spend the money on getting OEM parts. about 5 years ago a buddy of mine and his brothers both put carbon rear lips on their f30's we took them both of a couple months ago and the Real M performance lip looked brand new and came off easy and left very little residue, the sun faded, cracked amazon lip, did not do nearly as well and the chinese double sided tape melted badly in areas and took parts of his Alpine white paint with it. Pay for things once, not twice. That's our moto

Im not sure about the quality, but at least the fitment will be better since they are mold add ons.
So far no issues and have held up perfectly.

I got lucky with the Autotecknic mirror caps. Passenger side fit perfectly and driver side eventually snapped in after 20-30 minutes of effort.
They look perfect but you cannot go wrong with the OEM caps. |

Along those similar lines ^^^ for those who went the non-oem route
i am thinking it would make sense to at a MIN put some XPEL on it and or ceramic coating to help prevent against potential discoloration?
