It appears the Z received red and the ZM received clear; when mine fails I will replace w/red.

'07' is Red here.
Purchased it used so maybe the previous owner swapped it out from white ???

My 2006 MR has a clear one. I have not changed anything on the vehicle from how I took delivery when new. FWIW, mine is cracked...must be from normal usage.

The thought USA got red and some counties got clear, though that might not be true since Molez93 has clear. My 07 Z4MC has red.

Maybe it has to do with the paint job and what color would complement the paint? Lol who knows...

I thought all MC or C got red. Never seen MC with clear.

With that said, BMW loves to switch back and forth between clear and red on their 3rd (center) brake lamp - there's no rhymes or reasons...just whatever BMW thinks is what the buyer's want and can charge more for it.

You're correct - I've NEVER seen a MC or C with a clear one - always red.

For the roadster: BMW gave red brake light lenses to the non M. Clear third brake light lenses for the Z4M (because racecar). Personally, I liked the red one better so I removed the stock clear one from my Z4MR and replaced it with the red one, twice, because we all know they brake (pun intended).

As for the coupe I’m not sure. I would assume the same logic here of the MC versus non MC. For those of you that have never seen an MC with clear third brake light, here’s a pic;

Those pre-production press release pictures are the only coupe picture of the clear lens. All production coupes got red lens

And here is the same car in the showroom poster (at least same color/plate) - but with a red one. Weird eh? And as stated by XMetal, the clear lens for the coupe never made it to production.

Yes. I bought that poster on Ebay around 2008 or so and had it framed nicely. They still turn up occasionally.
