M3 rear-ended (Insert sad face)

So it finally happened, my M3 was rear ended yesterday while I was stopped at a pedestrian crosswalk waiting for a person to cross the street. I was stopped for approximately 3-5 seconds before I looked in my rearview mirror and audibly said "Oh shit", giving myself and my passenger just enough time to clench our buttholes before the other driver slammed into us. Luckily he wasn't driving too fast, probably 15-20mph, but my back definitely doesn't discriminate with pain.

The damage could have been a lot worse though, I'm thankful that it only resulted in some body aches. I just hate having to deal with getting a vehicle fixed; the process of getting estimates done, going to the rental place, the repair facility, it's all just a hassle.

The estimate for the repairs came in and I found it to be a little comical knowing the value of the BMS tips and the Carbon Fiber rear diffuser. I assume they can get away with respraying the tips, but the diffuser definitely took a good percentage of the damage.

Can't wait to see what the final total cost will be!

That sucks Vic! Yes estimate is insultingly low.

Sorry to hear.

Why are they looking for a reconditioned bumper cover. You should get brand new OEM parts where applicable and brand new replacement aftermarket parts. I’d make sure you get the right replacement parts.

Those points aside, that price is about the same as when I got my F82 repaired from being rear ended a couple of years ago. I didn’t have any custom parts and the guy that hit me was going slower than 15-20 miles an hour.

Make sure they don't stick on an aftermarket diffuser

I was going to ask the same question(s). I, too, suggest that you request OEM parts and the exact replacement of aftermarket parts where applicable.

Definitely do not do a aftermarket rear bumper cover even if they can get one. Not worth the hassle on fitment and quality. I understand what the hassle it is to go through through the motions of fixing the car. It sucks. Just dealing with the insurance companies is a pain. They always try to go as cheap as possible on parts and labor.

Since you're in the area, I would recommend D&V Masters. They will push for OEM parts and repair it properly.

Tbh I think it's just the process that USAA uses for repair estimates. They identify the lowest cost as a way to pay out the least amount of money up front. After the repair shop sees the vehicle and gets a more realistic cost estimate, they submit a supplement to the claim.

For this reason I generally don't use the repair shops recommended by the insurer because they are in an agreement with the shops to pay the least amount of money for the best quality you can get at that price. Usually ends up with a mediocre job being done that the average consumer wouldn't recognize any issues with, but to an enthusiast those insurance jobs never really meet their standards and then it's a battle to get things corrected under their "lifetime warranty".

Thanks! I looked them up and would consider them but they're out in Sterling, which is a bit of a drive from where I live.

I was in a similar accident recently.... my total in the end was $5,600.

Don't settle for less... take it to BMW

+1 for this shop - even though you said they are far away.

They worked on two of my previous cars with impeccable results both times.

No possible way does it even come close to that insulting estimate. Was this shop recommended by your insurance carrier? Had to be. Go to one of your own choice, it's the law. Good luck with the car, it'll be fine

It actually looked like he was getting dressed for work, as his tie was half done and his close were all a mess. He also said the usual "I can just pay you in cash whatever it cost to fix it", but looking at his car (2013 Ford Fusion) I was pretty skeptical on whether he really could afford it or if he even really knew how much it would cost to fix.

Regardless, I never agree to those offers because it makes the repair process much more of a hassle and there's no guarantee that they'll actually pay.

I guess I missed it. Why are you doing all the work when the other driver hit you. Why isn't it being done by his insurance company and your insurance.

Quicker to go through your own insurance and then have his ins go through subrogation with the other party’s insurance to get paid and get the deductible back.

Never did it that way with USAA. I reported the accident to them with the other driver's insurance info and USAA took care of everything. I just took my car where I wanted it fixed and USAA handled the rest.

Truth. The at fault driver's insurance wants to take their sweet ass time trying to wear down the victim.🤕

Always my fear when I drive around. Sucks to see and hear about that. Hopefully they can repair it back to OEM.
