Deep scratch on bumper

Looking to purchase a 2018 M3, everything is great but there is a deep scratch on the rear bumper where the trunk meets. Is this fixable without replacing bumper? how much should I ask them to knock off the price? Cheers.

Yep super fixable. One thing about fixing a bumper though, if you get tapped, then the paint / filler or whatever they use to fix it may not react as well to the bump/tap - and then it looks like crap.

A new rear bumper isn't that expensive might be better to just get a new one.

That scratch looks deep. I would just say you need the bumper replaced, it won't cost much.

You can get a bumper online for around $500 but it will need to be painted. Fortunately darker colors are easier to match.

two options here

new bumper will run 500-1000, plus paint at 700 or so.

fix it by sanding that area to remove the paint, fill the scratches with plastic bondo filler, primer, paint the top edge and feather out the color blend, then clearcoat the whole bumper.

all in all, I would personally not want a new bumper with all new paint. Id fix the top of this one and clear the whole bumper

Yeah I would go spot repair. That is one of the most abused areas of the car, so it will sustain more damage. If the repair doesn’t look right, you can always replace the bumper.

In negotiation, I would assume worst case and factor in the bumper replacement. Get a quote from a local BMW certified body shop.
